Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

oldman3, Yes, it is not in to bad of shape. It has had panels in it at one time. But most do. It was great driving the panel this weekend.

69CST-V, Thank you. I thought it looked neat with them both setting there. Me too, I can not wait the transfer the body over onto the updated frame.

Atommik, Thank you. It is really coming together well.

I had a good night. I started on the 56 brows. It is going better than the last time. I put the factory bucket in and located the trim ring on the bulb and inserted the screw at the bottom in which lines up the trim ring. Then did a lot of slicing and dicing. I got everything fit and then marked the fender and cut out the fender. Then re fitted the brow and started tacking. I will have to make some relief cuts to get them to fit at the area not welded yet. Here are the pictures.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

oldman3, Thank you.

48 GMC BURB, I will send you a email on what all to bring up. Reworking the harness, now that sounds like a nightmare. I dislike wiring. The only wire I like is weld wire. HAHA. Yes, it is going to be a great truck. People for sure will be checking out the fenders and wondering all about them. Doors will be after the motor and trans is set, probably when I set the cab on over to the rewoked frame. I may get the panel out this wekend again , the daully needs front tires and that is enough of a reason for me. Plus 60 degree weather!

99 to Life, Thank you.

Larry Lindley, Thank you.

I had an hour in tonight. I only have the bottom corner to do and the inside panel to make. Ground out some filler below my panel and found a bunch of small dents. They naturally just filled them , so while I am hammering and dollying my stuff I will wack them out too. Then runn the shrinking disc over it and onto the other side.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Looks good Shannon! I'd like to add features lie that to my truck but the shrinking due to welding gets me scared. I'd have 3000 hrs into that brow to make it right. Even if I had a beer between tacks, I'd still be battling shrinkage. The hammer and dolly thing isn't clicking yet.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

looks great shannon,

farmer sid, don't be scared man. just gotta practice. don't have your heat
to high and try .023 wire. Hammer and dolly is more patience than anything.
Shrinking discs will make your life easier too. Metal work is art. I rather shape
with it than filler, but it just takes time to get it right.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

69CST-V, thank you

FarmerSid, thank you. Yes, sometimes the shrinkage can be a real pain. It was not too bad. I did not even have a beer the whole time I was working on it. Haha

99 to Life, thank you. Heat is everything, it can really warp a panel out. The shrinking disc can really help bring things back.

Here is a picture of where I am at with the brows. The passenger just needs the inner made and the drivers needs the outside edge finished, then ground up , metal worked and the inside panel made. The drivers was a pain. When they formed it the one leg of the panel was way longer than the other. Which threw me off. So I had the add to the inside edge a little. But it is only metal. So it is fine.

Chevette, Thank you. I do not know about the tail lights. I will find out this weekend. Ken and his son are coming up this weekend and bringing the motor and tranny and a bunch of other parts. Also giving me a hand mounting it. Should be a good weekend.

oldman3, Thank you.

XD great work. I can't wait to see a profile shot. Any particular reason the owner went with 56 instead of 55? I am subscribed and have learned alot from watching your builds. Thank you for taking the time to post pics and document the process.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Oldman3, Thank you

Fountain, Thank you. No problem on posting how I do things, love doing it. I do not know why I use the 56 rather than the 55. I looked at a 56 my buddy has and thought they would work. I do not know how much different they are.

Well I was thrashing this week. I got both the headlight brows done by Saturday morning by 8 am . Then around 9 ken and his son came for the weekend to help and bring parts. We had a great time. Ken and his son are great people and was great having them help. I mounted and made the mounts for the motor and transmission. They started to tear the truck apart for me which was such a great help. Then by the end of the day we moved the cab over to the new frame. They the bad news. Needs floors ,rockers ,cowls, cab corners and a few other pieces. We figured we better do it now rather than later. So this morning I made the rocker panels. I wanted to put then in today so I did not wait to order them. They turned out great. I try to always have 1x1 box so I started the frame work for the floor. So I cut everything out and am working on it. It will get a paneled floor and firewall. So here are some picture. Thank you again for helping Ken and Kyle.
