Title Issue

ok guys i bought a 1967 chevy stepside from a guy who let it just sit...I live in PA and here titles are required for everything...he has the title for it but we just havent got it switched over yet...i am changing the cab out on it to a better one and sandblasting and painting the frame....i know in the glove box it doesnt have any kind of identifications at all...where is the identification at for this truck? does the title go to the cab or the frame? everything i have ever dealt with the title was to the frame...but i am told here it is to the cab...if so where is the number at? and how do i get it off for the new cab?
thanks in advance for the help

The VIN tag on my 71 cab is on the drivers side door jam, I think your 67 should be too.

You could either keep your title and replace my VIN tag, or keep my VIN tag and title

TITLE

Two choices-

Replace the vin tag on the new cab with the old one using rivets from vintags.com

Or...using both titles, apply for a rebuild title. This would be the absolute legal way of doing it. They basically combine two titles into one. Contact your local DMV, they should be able to tell you what you'll need.

Others will know more than me, but from reading other posts, this is what I've gathered.

'67 frames do not have the VIN stamped in them. It should be on a tag on the drivers door jam and is held on with 4 special "rosette" rivets that DOT inspectors look for when inspecting a vehicle (I KNOW they do in Kansas, would guess that they do in other states)

68-72 have the VIN stamped in the top of the front frame horn, I think on the pass side, but may be drivers side. The VIN should also be on the tag on the drivers door jam.

If it were mine and an inspection were required before putting it on the road, I would do it before the rebuild.

I would never start a frame off restoration without a clear title in my name. Why chance it? Even if you know the seller, it is still much better to have it in your name to avoid possible problems later.

JMO though.

I went to that site, and then it redirected me to another one, that is in the UK? Was the site bought out or does he ship overseas

Hmm I might just cut the metal around the tag in the one out of my bad cab and weld it into my other cab that is going on

I have seen the rosette rivets listed in Hemmings Motor News also.

As far as the glove box having no ID in it, the VIN should be printed on the option sheet sticker on the inside of the glovebox door. As also stated, the VIN is also on the drivers side doorjamb held on with the above mentioned 4 rivets.
