Wiring Headlight Switch.

So looking at my harness (EZ wiring) and the switch (Factory FSM).

FSM says wires and locations

Tail Lamp
Dome Lamp
Dome Light
StopLamp
ParkingLamp
HeadLamp

But wiring harness wires are

Dimmer Power
High Beam Left
Low Beam Left
High Beam Right
Low Beam Right
Left Front Park
Left Tail Park

etc

Im not quite clear which of these wires cross over (function) ..... to the switch as for example Im guessing headlamp is for headlights - but how to link high and low beam into this ?

Also - what is a stop lamp ....... so on.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

So think I mostly worked it out .......
Just not sure on this bit.

I *think* this is for a column that has a GM light switch for high beam etc .
So plug into column.

I dont think mine does (ididit).

https://www.ididitinc.com/i-25048738...tegory:1310139

So .... not sure what do do with these wires ....
  • Left High Beam and High Beam indicator (plugged together) 1 pin;
  • Dimmer PWR
  • Left Low Beam

So guess it comes down to

IS dimmer only for Dash/Gauges ? and hows is it controlled - did it exist in these years ?

LowBeam and High Beam headlight - how controlled etc.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

So ...... turns out this is the dimmer switch wiring for the dimmer switch control on the floor ..... which I had no idea about.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

Been looking at different wiring options for my 1957 truck also.
Thinking it was on the painless wiring site under manuals for installing, appears that they supply a new dimmer switch for the floor with their package.
Neither less good reading to see the whole flow of their wiring kits.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

They all have to have a dimer switch unless you just plan to run low beams.

Floor mounted, column mounted or a toggle switch on the dash depends on your individual setup. Maybe I shouldn't mention toggle switch and add confusion. That would be more for a dune buggy style rig anyhow.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

Installed the foot version ... works great - now just to mount it.

My switch loses power for park lamps when high beams are on ...... I assume thats normal. But tail lights get constant 12v in both low an high obviously.

Part of me was wondering should i just give the front park lights the same constant 12v as the rear tail lights in case my front lights ever fail.

Probably doesnt matter either way.

Re: Wiring Headlight Switch.

The tail light position on the headlight switch has dual terminals, I connected the park lights to the second tail light terminal so they would stay on with the headlights on. Works great...
