It was in a 70 3/4 ton 4x4. Has the adjuster bolt on the yoke which I thought only the ho72 had. 41 10 stamped on the ring gear. Guess someone could have regeared it but the front axle was 4:10 also

Re: 66 k20

I picked up another Eaton today, this one stamped 7-32, just what I need. Seems pretty tight and looks good. Not sure what I’m going to do with the 4:10 just yet.

Re: 66 k20

Ever since I’ve put this bed on, it’s bothered me that it’s so crooked. I figured the bed was jacked up somehow or it was due to some of the wood missing. I broke out the tape measure and found that one frame rail is higher than the other over the axle. So I’ve got a weak or broken spring, right? No. 8 leaves on the right, 7 on the left.

Yes, the cab is level. I've got 2 different size spring packs on the rear for some reason.

Re: 66 k20

While your messing around with that rear end, can you take some pictures of the rear brakes and hubs etc. Long story, but I don't have the stock K20 rear brakes on mine and they are unique to that model (I'm using C20 rears now). Been looking for a long time and a picture or two would help me remember what they are suppose to look like if I find them. Several K10s in this area, but haven't seen a stock K20 around here in a couple of decades. Yours should be 12x2" with slide on drums, like on the front.
Thanks
Tom

A H052 is a 3/4 ton , a HO72 is a 1 ton axle

Oh ya, forgot about that discussion. From your pictures it looks like you may have 2wd set up like me. K20 should have rear drums that just slide off the lug studs to remove (like in front) your pictures look like the kind that have bearings inside drum, so you have to remove the large adjusting nut to remove the drum. Am I seeing that right? Correct drums should be 12x2" like front, but with a slightly different offset.

You are seeing it correctly. Wheel studs are pressed into the drum and the hub nut has to be removed to get the drum off. They are 12x2 and use the same shoes as the front. I don’t know what was supposed to be on there but they looked original and the new drums I ordered were for a K series truck. May be the same application for 2wd also not sure.

I wonder if that was a 66 thing. Mine was out of a 64 K20 and definitely had 12x2 slide on drums. All I've read says they were all that way, but I'm still learning. Anybody out there know what the story is? Would love to find out.
Thanks for the info
Tom

Since it looks like the antenna sticks up above the cab it should work ok but you really wont know until you try it.

Sometimes short antennas that are shorter than the height of the cab tend to have some of the signal blocked or sometimes wont tune correctly because of funny signal reflections from the metal truck cab being right next to the antenna.

Re: 66 k20

Putting that fender on made the rusty rocker stick out, which required cab support, inner floor, etc. I know I should have done the cab corner also but I had to stop somewhere for now. I still need to finish patching in the rear section of floor also.

Re: 66 k20

I probably would have been ok stopping here but since that fender wasn’t fully bolted on and I have this spray gun I got at a thrift store a few years ago, and I finally have a real air compressor, I figured now was as good a time as any to learn to paint.

Re: 66 k20a

Not sure what I did wrong but the second coat on on the fender ended up with some orange peel. I’m not gonna kick myself too hard since I’ve never held a spray gun before, was painting outside on a cloudy day and it should wet sand sand out anyway.

And finally, I had a friend of mine reproduce these old dealership stickers with her cricuit machine. She knocked it out of the park.

You've been busy. Nice work on the rust damage.

Any details on the fender fitment? I'm thinking of getting new ones too.

Re: 66 k20

It really wasn’t too bad. I had to kind of roll it over to get the top bolts under the hood to start and they still aren’t great but some of it could be my truck also. It’s a goodmark fender I ordered from rockauto.

New rear 8 leaf rear springs, pins, shackles and bolts. Quite an ordeal but it sure did that improve the stance.
