Volt gauge conversion from a 1980 trans am

I done a conversion with a trans am volt gauge with the choke window in it. I got an engine light from a Ford F-150 and used it in the window instead of the choke because I’m doing a Ls swap on my project. What do you all think?

Re: Volt gauge conversion from a 1980 trans am

Thanks, I already done the s-10 speedo conversion but havent painted the lens for 120mph yet. I am working on a 7k tach for it and waiting on the stencil so I can paint it all at once. I have an air pressure gauge cluster also and thinking about using the tin to do a trans temp gauge in its place.

That’s pretty cool. That’s a good idea on the engine light.

Re: Volt gauge conversion from a 1980 trans am

This came from a 1980 but I would think any F body around that year will work. It was an easy swap also, all i had to do was drill one hole to get the gauge to mount and then i drilled one for the light for the check engine. didnt have to move the factory holes either and it lined up perfect. Thanks for the compliments guys. Its still a work in progress.

Re: Volt gauge conversion from a 1980 trans am

Here is some pics of the tach conversion I will be doing, I am using a tach from a Jeep and gonna use the factory reproduction tach face and try to use the needle. Tbone informed me the factory needle doesn’t come off the factory tach so unsure what I going to do there as of yet but hopefully I can figure something out because I want it to look as factory as possible. I know the computer for the Ls swap can be programmed to put a 8 cylinder signal but I wanted a higher rpm tach. I will post more pics as I get further into the conversion.

CarlsLQ9SS Question if you don't mind. How did the window light up when it was in the Trans Am?

Like your idea.

It originally lit up as a choke light. I just changed the lens to the ENGINE lens and drilled a hole in the tin for the light from the harness for check engine.

Re: Volt gauge conversion from a 1980 trans am

Here is some updates on my gauges. I replaced the bezel and added a trans temp gauge. Also found a 8k tach lens on Ebay for my build. I took an old sun tach that I've had for years that has the same sweep as the lens and I bought and used an aftermarket 67-72 tach and merged them both together to make it look original. So it has a setting on the back for 4cyl, 6cyl and 8 cyl and I tried it on an old small block and it works good. I am now waiting on my tins to get back from Les so I can finish it up. I also done the s10 speedo swap on it for my ls swap. Here is a few pics of my progress.

Nice work! What vehicle did the engine light come off? And what are you using for the dash light sockets?

The engine light came from a 96 f-150, and the bulb sockets are from the parklight bulbs from a 2001 silverado
