Re: Whats your impression of a 5.3L LS motor in these trucks?

I picked up a 4.8l off CL with 140k on it for $600 with all of the front accessories. I took it apart cleaned everything up and put in a mild cam. The motor looks great very little wear at 140k, it started right up on first try.

Re: Whats your impression of a 5.3L LS motor in these trucks?

I just picked up a whole truck with with an LQ4 that has 75K on it for 2200 Canadian. I will get all of that back in parting the rest out. I also grabbed another LQ4 complete with all accessories, harness and computer for 650 Canadian. It's going into my buddies Camaro right now. I can buy a 5.3 with all of the stuff at my local wrecker for 450 bucks all day long. They can't sell them. When a truck comes in they check to see if the tranny works well and nothing else. They are literally scrapping the 5.3's and the 4.8's.

I wonder because from my experience Amigos thinks everything they have is made of gold. For example, 1 1/4 inch front sway bar from an 85 GMC 1 ton. They wanted 60.00 bucks and I'm thinking 25/30. I went to 40.00 and they wouldn't budge. They will probably crush the truck with the sway bar on it. I always pay cash when I go there and I know it doesn't go in the till.

Re: Whats your impression of a 5.3L LS motor in these trucks?

Read the thread. Having owned a burb with a 5.3, with 16 mph hwy miles
Noticed the off the line torque is good, but not a rocket. I just picked up an LQ4 6.0 13 mph hwy. The torque curve is nearly flat which is good as my c20 weighs in at 5,700 lbs.

Why the lsx motor over a 1971 350, simple more power for less money.
I'll have almost twice the HP with out doing any engine mods and get about 3 miles per gallon better mileage.

My goal is $2500, spent $1700 for the motor, trans, wiring , pedal, computer, etc. Plan on using the stock gas tank and inline pump, so $800 looks do able.

Bought adapter motor mount plates on eBay for $21.
I have access to many different tools and machines, so that is where my cost saving really comes from

Re: Whats your impression of a 5.3L LS motor in these trucks?

I feel that the effort and cost of putting an LS and trans in a truck, then running it with a carb, is the total opposite of the point of installing the engine and trans combo... you could probably FI a regular small block for cheaper.

Just wondering what you guys impressions are with these trucks and the 5.3L, good enough, pleanty of power, mileage? Stuff like that.

BTW this will be going in my 68 SWB C-10. Has a 4.10 gear in it now but I have a set of 3.55s as well.

thanks
