Re: Another one bites the dust (truck is totalled)

well, did some more looking today, I would say the frame is bent, don't think that little dip in the frame is supposed to be there. Also a pic of the right rocker buckle. The cab support doesn't look so hot either.

Re: Another one bites the dust (truck is totalled)

You could make it a short wheel base if the frame is bent in the right(wrong)place.

Yeah, but you might want to take it to a body shop for a good estimate of the damage so you have some documentation. And have you taken yourself to the "body shop"? You need to do both. And go to the dentist, you could have some cracked teeth from the impact...seriously.

I was hoping the frame was OK but your photos tell the tale. Really sorry about that.

Sorry about your truck. That must suck big time, but the damage could have been worse. Trucks are like women though, there's always more out there.

Hope your doing better.

Yeah, but if you ever find a good one they're hard to replace.

Re: Another one bites the dust (truck is totalled)

Just a quick update, I had a body shop come over the other day & look at the truck. Body shop said totalled. I met with the adjuster today, she just agreed with the body shop, I showed her all the damage I can find. She took lots of pics and I kept pointing out things that I had done. She asked if I have receipts, which I do. She said if I am going to negotiate for different things, then she neded to have pics of them.

Like the under bed gas tank, I also pointed out the cab is one that was for a factory headliner and has the holes there for a headliner, stereo, a/c cab... etc.

The ins co has agreed that the other driver was at fault and that they are going to pay for the truck, I also have an iunjury claim going.

Another small step forward.

Now I get to start tearing it apart.

Not sure how this works with insurance companies. I know I only carry liability on my trucks, so if I am hit, then the other person's insurance will pay? I have only had accidents driving fully covered cars, so haven't seen what happens with only liability.

yes, your liability coverage pays for damage to someone else's property or injury when you are at fault for an accident.

Full coverage pays for the damage to your truck no matter who is at fault.

Re: Another one bites the dust (truck is totalled)

So are you gonna try to fix it up.......I have seen a shop do frame swaps on a gmc envoy and still have to repair damage too because the insurance didnt want to total it about $1500 shy of being totaled. You may be able to find a good frame and some body parts and get it fixed up always room for another project.

Re: Another one bites the dust (truck is totalled)

Bummer dude, I know EXACTLY how you feel! When the insurance adjuster came to my shop to look the 68 over after I got hit, he first came back with a total of around $200 and something for damages. Told "him not a chance!! You need to work on this a little more!" I did the same thing. Pointed out the things I had did that were now jacked up, the costs to replace them with OEM or NOS parts, and in the end wound up with a check big enough to buy ALL NEW sheetmetal for my truck, including SWB bed sides. Everything new but the cab, grill, and cowl.

Don't let 'em dink ya around, get what it's really worth, and nothing less! Glad you are OK! Definately go see the Doc, if for nothing else but to reassure yourself there are no hidden injuries (FF/EMT for 14 years!), but to have the documentation for the insurance company in case they start pulling your chain!

That happened to me when I got rear-ended in my 03 Silverado. Bent the frame into an inverted "V" in the rear. The shop just knew the insurance company would total it, but instead, they had them build a new bed, and back-half the frame with a new piece!
