Airbag sensor broken?

Hi all, I just recently had my 96 z71 5.7 towed...after arriving at the destination the tow truck driver stated that the steering wheel did not turn the front wheels.

He demonstrated this by spinning my now clicking steering wheel. The front wheels just barely shuddered.

I jumped in the engine compartment and found the bolt holding the shaft to the steering box had worked itself loose. Never had this happen before. I tightened the bolt and everything worked great. Since then the airbag light is on and I get a code 26.

Is it safe to assume the driver broke the sensor in the column by spinning it?

Re: Airbag sensor broken?

Everything else seems back to normal after tightening that bolt...

Would a broken clockspring have any other symptoms besides the airbag light?

Re: Airbag sensor broken?

Yep, changed one in my 96 Z71 about 8 years ago because the air bag light stayed on.
