Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I ran electrolysis for what I think will be the last time for quite a while. This last part is the new (well, 1970 OEM) battery tray. The part is now soaking overnight in evaporust. I was able to load up the soaking container to the point that I got 80 percent of the tray in the fluid and tomorrow I'll flip it over and that will be that!

Gosh I hope to reassemble the front end soon.

Waiting to fund a new oil pickup, and a few other odds and ends. Top end is ready to put on, but I want to get the bottom stuff done first.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

400 mile road trip this weekend to pickup a Th350 auto transmission from 4X4GMC1972 in Dallas. My 72 ran great and only burned 1 quart of oil, not bad for 117,000 mile truck. I'm excited to get an auto, 3OTT stinks in traffic.

Thanks for gift wrapping if for me Todd

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

All I got done today was flipping the replacement battery tray over so as to get the other 1/2 cleaned in Evaporust and wire wheeling and rust treating (NAPA spray) my original battery tray bolts. I also put some replacement fender bolts into evaporust.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I replaced the throttle return spring, made the engine return to proper idle.

Ten Ring:
Have you tried white vinegar for rust removal? Worked well for me, 6 gallons for $12. Added 2 gallons of water, no flipping needed, just 48 hrs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I finally got around to working on some 5 lug donor parts. It's a long term low budget project... :-/

I added new gear lube to my, wire brushed off the rust, and then brushed on some of Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator. Ordering the new drums and hardware next month and then some new rubber for the 6.5" Van Rallys I scored the month after.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Disassembled, sanded, primed, the vent window frames yesterday. This morning I went out and painted them. Drying now. Will put em back together next weekend or sooner.
Not much progress actually, but better than nothing.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Last few days I've just cleaned parts and organized. Also purchased two rare pieces...........

3994046 Exhaust manifold. I had never seen one. I guess cuz the part # is consistent with the 3994045. I don't know, these manifolds are kind of a mystery.

NOS coolant recovery. Wasn't cheap.

If you can't find the correct ones, grind the square part of the stove bolt till they fit. I drained the water out from the engine build this summer and put in antifreeze. It got down to 29 F last nite....

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Test fit the 315x75x16 BFG TA KO2 on 16x10 steelies on the front. Perfect, plenty of room. Ordered the tires and rims. Should be here Tuesday. Not soon enough. Through cracks in the tread of my current/old front tires, could see the belt core.

Took my dash apart to diagnose why my wipers stopped working. After testing everything thoroughly, reassembled and it works great now. Must have been bad/loose/dirty connections. Replaced the missing e-clip on the wiper motor arm. Vacuumed out probably 40 years of crud and pine tree needles from under the cowl.

Converted back to true dual exhaust..took out crossover. I didn't like the motor boat sound at idle.
