Recent aquistion

Hello all,
I recently inherited a new project. It's a GMC flat bed dual wheeled truck with the 305V6. And that's really all I know at this point. I was hoping someone could help me decipher more about it.
The VIN tag is: 1502 P 67146B
The rating plate says GVW 7500lbs. 305E 142HP @ 3800 RPM

It has the later model hood also.

Thanks for the help.

I tried that. My tag doesn't look anything like the ones pictured there. If I can remember how to log into my photobucket, I'll load some pictures later.

I can't remember how to post pictures and trying on a phone isn't helping. Links will have to do for now.

Seems like it translates pretty well to me:

15 - 1500 series truck
02 - 127" wheelbase
P - Pontiac Michigan
67146 - Serial number
B - GVW 6001 - 10000

Re: Recent aquistion

Well, it's not the first time I couldn't figure something out...

Thanks for the help. Is there anyway to tell the year by that?

A dually with a 10' bed could be 1500 series?

I need to get some pictures of the whole truck, but I'm never home in the daylight.

Re: Recent aquistion

1500 series for GMC is equivalent to 2500 series for Chevy. GMC 1/2 tons were 1000 series.

You sure you got All the number written down from the tag? If it's a 305E you should have a 64-66 truck. A 1000 was a half-ton, 1500 was a 3/4 ton, and 2500 was a one ton then that all changed. One way to easily tell if it's a 66 is if the 351 V6 was listed as an option. Title should also say the year.

Re: Recent aquistion

A picture of the tag is linked above. I don't have the title currently, just doing some digging around.

It's definitely a knee knocker cab.

Derr, I forgot the 305E came out earlier. 62-63 series with a wrap around wind shield and 305E. Look forward to some pics. lol

That chrome grill and chrome GMC V6 emblems are golden.

Re: Recent aquistion

Nice truck, looks like it hasn't been messed with too much, If those clear turn signal lenses are original then it's a 62.

Re: Recent aquistion

Thanks.

I have no reason to suspect them to not be original.

I have an '84 C30 chassis that I want to steal the front suspension off of, I know this is doable on the 64-66, but can I still do it on a '62?

It also needs a clutch and some electrical work. It has sat since the mid eighties and cranked over with minimal work.
