Re: 1972 gmc 2wd highlander with original paint

The top pic looks correct, a large washer and a spring. The 2nd pic i'm pretty sure is not factory. Maybe they put those washers there to keep the lower bearing from falling out or something?

that would make sense, but do you know what the use of the spring and washer is?

Re: 1972 gmc 2wd highlander with original paint

Got even more done on my truck this weekend.
I siliconed in some freeze plugs for my "flow enhancers" for the center vent
Name: 101_1623.jpg
Views: 490
Size: 32.3 KB
Then painted my defrost vents
Name: 101_1625.jpg
Views: 496
Size: 53.3 KB
Put my new felt and chrome balls in the AC vents. It amazes me how stiff they are to move with the new felt in them.

then painted and installed both of my kick panel vents

Re: 1972 gmc 2wd highlander with original paint

I also sandblasted my core support. I hate doing that, it makes the biggest mess, and gets sand everywhere!!
Name: 101_1628.jpg
Views: 443
Size: 59.5 KB
Then finished up my last bit of rust repair on the core support
Name: 101_1634.jpg
Views: 488
Size: 53.8 KB
Then here is a picture of my brother masking off my new gauge cluster so we can get ready to paint it.
Name: 101_1629.jpg
Views: 489
Size: 47.0 KB
Then we sprayed the paint down, and it wasn't even close! I took the glove box to NAPA before we touched the original paint to find a paint that was close to the original color, and found a color that was really close, but either they messed up while mixing it, or the paint chip was a MILE off!
Name: 101_1631.jpg
Views: 482
Size: 44.0 KB
Here is a picture of the color out of the can (left) and the color we finished with after mixed some orange and black into the original color (right), for sure a mile off.

Re: 1972 gmc 2wd highlander with original paint

Here is a picture of the finished glove box door and the gauge bezel after paint
Name: 101_1639.jpg
Views: 492
Size: 49.7 KB
Then the gauge cluster all assembled together
Name: 101_1643.jpg
Views: 490
Size: 61.6 KB
Then I installed the dash pad
Name: 101_1644.jpg
Views: 489
Size: 57.6 KB
And through the glove box door on because I'm running out of safe places to put things unless they are installed on the truck
Name: 101_1648.jpg
Views: 491
Size: 40.7 KB
Then I put the core support on (because we had too many other things in the shop to spray paint it) and the driver side fender to figure out where we are going to mount the fuse box, just so I could get the length of wires figured out, then pulled them back off and connected the fuse box to everything.

Good choice on replacing that now. It isn't fun after it's all together. Not horrid, just not exactly fun. Haha The wiring is looking nice too!

I really appreciate your compliments! I have looked at replacing a blower motor on these trucks with them all assembled, and they don't look like much fun! (plus my dad told me he has done a few and recommends to do anything you can to prevent having to do one)

Also, i forgot to post these pictures of the trim I got off of the local classifieds. They are in great shape!

haha if only my truck was a longhorn to need those! No, they are just long bed, the picture does make them look a lot longer, though!

Yeah, it almost looks like they have the end extension piece on the end. If you see any around let me know. I'm always on the hunt for extras.
