`72 K20 Highlander

My new truck just arrived on Monday.I bought it out of Colorado and had it shipped to Maryland. It`s all original(including paint)with alot of options for a CustomDeluxe, making it rare compared to a Cheyenne or Super. They include:A/c,tach,custom camper, tool&storage, aux.tank, bumper guards, door edge trim, deluxe 2-tone,am/fm,and the rare ones:400sm blk, woodgrain ext mouldings, and Highlander pkg. These may cause some dispute, but the truck is proof of any doubt.I`m real tickled with my find and plan to keep`er all original.

sounds cool...the only thing that sounds fishy to me is the 400. they never came in our trucks. i would like to see pics though, i can't remember ever seeing a K20 highlander.

I was thinking the same thing, does it say 400 sb on the glove box sheet? If so that is a new one by me, I also thought they were never made for our trucks. Sounds like one nice truck though...

In all honesty,I haven`t run #s yet. There is no Vin-spec on glovebox(the stickler removed it,without a scratch). It has the fender badge and this truck is bone-stock and all original, down to the paint and interior(which are in great shape).I just can`t imagine it being counterfitted unless the dealer did this when new.Everything is"even patina".I understand the doubt.I`ve been running these trucks since I turned 16 in`71.It would take a long while to sit and recall every truck I`ve owned, got 9 now:2)blazers1)K20Sub1)K30pu3)K20pu1)C10swb1)C20pu.Not boasting, more like admitting the disease. I`m modestly considering myself somewhat of an expert after 33years of being a `67-`72 fanatic.Yet,I`m open to dispute.I will try to get to the bottom of this and let you know. The original owner has passed away,You didn`t think he`d sell it,did you?I was also told by family,it`s all original and nothing about any rarity on this truck was hyped. They didn`t even know it was a Highlander.I didn`t,until after I got it home.

the 400 badge on the fender means 402 big block...which didnt come in 4x4s either. not to sound rude, but just what i've heard.

The highlander package amunst other things came with a parchment vinyl scrolled seat with plaid seating inserts in several colors (I've seen green and orange), Also had parchment seatbelts, sun visors and deluxe door panels.

I have seen a 3/4 ton highlander truck in northern Arkansas that Ozark Hippy and I almost bought (hugger orange/white), and a 1/2 ton one in a junk yard in Tennessee (olive green/white).

The 400 badge on the fender denotes a 396/402 big block, but as 69GMC says, no K-series truck came with a big block (only C-series 2wd). The original big block trucks came with the removable high hump in the floor board.

I can't wait to see pics of it. I have a special affinity for these rare special eddition trucks.

I know,I`m a stone-ager when it comes to computers. This is a Medium Blue/White truck,so it has blue plaid on seats. The motor is a small block 400.They started these in`73 4wd and I`m thinking this is a late`72.You know how`71s had 396 on VIN sheet, yet motor was 402?Or,I have a`71 CustomCamper20(emblems)with headliner, carpet, and woodgrain mouldings(no mention on VIN sheet). There is no mention of Cheyenne package, but lists CustomSportTruck on VIN sheet. It is a Cheyenne with CustomCamper option, yet came through as above. All I`m saying is there are exceptions.Oh,and this truck is also all original/unrestored incl.paint and bought from original owner.

Re: `72 K20 Highlander

heh heh...A blast from the past. I think Super-K had high hopes with that 400 being original. As rare as that truck was I think he just wanted to believe he had an exception. It was a neat combo with that 400SBC and it sure was done to look original. I have these pictures, once after it was lifted. All original other than that (and the 400)

Re: `72 K20 Highlander

Super K, I was curious if it had the original hub caps still? If so, what color is the emblem on the rear cap?. I am confused if they should be blue or ochre?

Thanks for your time.

Re: `72 K20 Highlander

They would be blue. In '73 the color went to yellow.

Re: `72 K20 Highlander

So, the style of hub cap is the same, but the color yellow starts in 73. Here is a set of hub caps a board member sold me saying they were 69 to 72. Sorry, don't want to take over the thread just confused.

Hey Tim, didn't we figure that this pictured blue-white K/20 started out life as a C/20 truck that was used as a body donor on that K frame?

The below link will take you to a thread/ discussion from earlier this year on this same subject, see post #24 for some clear/clean pictures of both. Mel
