^7 frame qustion on cleaning up

I am about to take the cab of our 67 C10 and tear down the frame completely! Anything you would do while apart if you could redo your frame or is just nice to do while apart? This is not a # matching truck. I will be cleaning up area where dimpled for power steering for sure be blasting frame but what else am I missing? Going to be going back with ECE 4/6 and might do c notch now just in case we tow and going to tear down front 83 crossmember and rebuild it. Any help guys?????? Brandon

pull everything off your frame. even your front suspension. take all the parts and get them sandblasted. then either powder coat or paint every thing.

then reassmble with all new front end suspension bushings/rebuild kit.

new bushings everywhere/leaf spring/cab/front end, everything.

that is what i would suggest. if you are guna do it, do it right.

not that they needed it but i boxed my trailing arms. these frames are pretty strong, so its not necessary. i did it for a cleaner look and maybe a little strength. im in the middle of a complete frame off resto. let me know if ya have any questions. biggest thing is, plan ahead and take your time. you'll get out of it what you put in it. as far as satisfaction goes anyway! $ might be a different story... lol!

Decide if you're going to move the tank to the rear.If so,you probably want to mod the crossmember for that before doing the paint/powdercoat.

Just finished my frame on my 67... Things to do prior to paint/powdercoat. Indent frame if you wanna run a ps box, drill rear rivets for shock mount relocator kit, pretty much look ahead so you not cutting/drilling on a finished product

I drilled the rivets on my manual trans crossmember. I used bolts to reattached it after powder coating. I did this just in case I decide to go with a different transmission in the future.

If your not going with an aftermarket trailing arm crossmember I would modify it for the exhaust to run through.

I would cut the frame for a C-notch.

I was going to mention these if no one else did. Also, if you don't currently have a front sway bar, you will need to drill out the two lower rivets on the front crossmember as the sway bar brackets use these same holes.

Great ideas guys and keep them coming! So far frame as be modded for power steering but will clean it up better before sending out, started the rear tank conversion but not sure about this crossmember mod that panel is talking about. Also can you post up on lower rivets for the sway bar? Might not work on mind since using 83 front crossmember. Also plan on doing the exhaust in crossmember but not sure what thickness to go with on metal.Can anyone post picture just to be sure for shock mounts I need to remove to install shock relocators please. Thanks for info guys!!!!!

What does flipping the front bracket on the trailing arm do for or trucks? I also plan on welding up trailing arms and wondering if replacing the original bushings in the trailing arm are going to be a pain to remove and replace? Anyone rebuilt upper and lower control arms on 83 C10? Might as well do it once and do it right!

Check any brake lines that attach to the frame, clean & chase any fastener
holes, especially where ground straps go. Check the integrity of wiring & fuel
lines and replace if need be.

There is a rear crossmember that is in the way of mounting a rear tank. Simple physics, two things cannot occupy the same space. As for the sway bar mount, I don't have a photo, but if you had a sway bar and mounts you would see that from the factory sway bar equipped trucks had the frame bracket and the front crossmember attached to the frame with the same rivet. (truck sway bars dont bolt directly to the frame like a car, but use a bracket that is originally riceted to the frame that the sway bar then bolts to. Non sway bar trucks had only the crossmember, so in order to mount the sway bar bracket, you have to remove the river and replace it witha a good grade 8 bolt and lock washer.

On the front trailing arm bracket flip, it basically takes away about 3" of drop that the rear axle housing and pinion angle would 'see', .. the pinion angle is more at an acceptable angle in relation to the drive shaft. It also helps with lateral regidity and the geometry of the trailing arm suspension a bit closer to stock but at a lowered ride height. The only down side is it takes away (raises) about .75" of your rear drop.

Yes, absolutely. While you have your trailing arms out, replace the bushings.

On the front upper / lower arms .. mine were already done when I got the truck.
