Mice Proofing

Any idea on how to keep the mice out of my heater box? I'm thinking a screen. But wanted to see what other have come up with.

I used moth ball packets when i don't mice around my vehicle.
I haven't had an issue with them actually ever getting 'into' the vehicle, but they love to sit up on the fenders, air cleaner, battery etc.
So I put a few packets up there and change them out about every month....seems to work fine.

I had a mouse problem in my '50 Caddy. A guy told me try Irish Spring soap bars. Just open the box(es) and place in truck. I keep 1 in the trunk and 2 under the seats in the Caddy. Seems to work. (Just sayin'). I also heard peppermint,...can't stomach mothballs,...guess that's why they work on mice.

I haven't had a problem but a friend of mine stores his truck in a barn kind of building with mice. What he does is jacks up the truck and puts 4 jack stands under. He places the jack stands in trays that have a 1" or so turned up edge like a meat loaf tray. He fills the trays with oil. The mice have no way to get into the truck without swimming in the oil to get to the jack stands. It seems like a lot to go through but you only need one mouse and a mouth full of wires to make you a believer. He also removes the tires but more for the theft aspect. A few traps wouldn't hurt also but keep checking them. Good luck and don't have a mice day.

I use Irish Spring soap and dryer sheets....vent screen mesh aids as well

When I bought my '69 Dodge SuperBee a couple of years ago it had a few bars of Irish Spring soap in it. Two of them were about half eaten by the mice. It looked like they had been there for a long time, so I guess the moral here is to change them every year..... I just use traps in the vehicles now. I just check them every couple of days and I have caught 12 mice so far this winter with peanut butter.

Cheese in a trap checked regularly till the cheese remains. That's what I do in my house and vehicles. They only set up shop once, and all at the same time, when they feel cold weather coming on, then settle in. Once warm weather returns they go back to the field.

I was cleaning out my work car putting in new filters etc and decided to pull the cabin filter. I was shocked to find it full of mouse house. I drove that car every day at least 100 miles. I think of mice in vehicles that do a whole lot of sitting.

Ive got a couple of cars stored in a barn. I filled those things up with moth balls, dryer sheets, and mouse repellent that comes in giant size tea bags. Only time will tell if they did anything.

Coyote urine or fox scent will scare anything smaller off, buy it will scare you off, too!

Mice home like this? This was from it's previous home, no pines near me.

Heater still spits out crap after vacuuming and compressor air blown through the inside.

This seems to a normal place for those critters to build a home,the nest isn't as bad as the pee and poop that is leaft behind!

I think id rather just deal with the mice, I cant imagine trying to get a coyote to pee in a cup.

They won't do it. They don't want to lose their jobs flying airplanes if the marijuana gets found in the urine.

You can buy it bottled up. How they "harvest" it is a mystery to me. I guess Coyote pee is as bad as fox scent (also available "pre-packaged"). I had a customer ripping me off on a job. A telecom contractor with one of the last Porche Carerras. I was telling an old feller about my plight and how he'd leave that Porche sit out unlocked and the ideas that were running through my head. He said one thing, "Fox scent". Then, "But don't buy it local, it'll ruin that car. Never get that smell out". Hmmm.... Then I decided to cut my losses and remain a free man.

Use the mice sticky traps , Using bait only attracts more hungry mice to the traps ,You can place these "sticky boards" most anywhere and they work without inviting more of the little bastards in .

There are other ways, but hey stopped taking my cheese, as always. They all nest up at the same time and that's it. You trap all that are trying to settle in for a couple few weeks and you're done. I think I got 6 or 7 this year so far. The cheese has been in all the traps since before Christmas. Time to gather them up. Sticky paper would be good at this point, just in case. If there's an exception it'll find me

Thanks for the ideas. Funny, it had Irish Spring soap in it when I bought it. Didn't know why. I think it's still in the glove box.

I am terrified of mouse damage. I do everything (...literally):

Sticky traps
Snap traps baited with peanut butter
Plug in ultra sonic noise maker
Irish spring soap
Peppermint oil on cotton balls
Bounce dryer sheets
"Cab fresh" deterent from Tractor Supply store
Poison cubes from TSC
Basement cat
Bucket of antifreeze with spinning pop can, baited with peanut butter

I've seen them eat the Irish spring, make a nest with the dryer sheets and poop on the sonic noise thing (probably as a protest)

I've had the best success with the snap traps (placed strategically so they have to get through a small area to get at them, or placed in pairs so that they get hit with one while they are distracted by the other) and the bucket, since it can get multiple victims without resetting.

So far the solution presented below seems to be working as well:

Just my 2 cents worth; but I have had a lot better luck using peanut butter rather than cheese in my traps.
I use these with the sticky traps and have good success catching the little varmints!
I live in the country so it is a year round battle.

Poison or a small cup of antifreeze the green kind works. I've had them get up in between the top of the cab and roof above the door. Caused it to rust out but the truck was sitting at my buddies farm for a long time.

They also like BBQ sauce . I have an infestation of the critters in my shop apparently . I have been placing pie pans with poison / with a dab of BBQ sauce stirred in and they keep all the pans empty .

Have tried peanut butter, cheese, and butter on the old fashion snap traps with not great luck. Someone told me to use flour tried it, won't use anything else it works great
