I fired her up for the first time this past saturday..sounds very healthy. I did hear 3 valves ticking so I tightend those up a bit..I used a piece of old garden hose to narrow the search as its hard to hear with open headers. Put one end over the rockers and the other to my ear..Old school works my friends. I also checked to see if my alternator was doing its job and it was not. So after much research on this forum decided to convert to a internal regulated alternator
. I made sure to check my wires for continuity at the alternator plug end through to the volt regulator plug.. I had a short on my white wire so I repaired that. I followed a fellow members write up on how to..do the swap was super super easy..I used a 80's c10 sbc 350 remanufactured from oreillys and a universal plug that works for a/c and other car parts that cost 2.99..the alt was 42 bucks my price and some male spade connectors. All under 50 dollars with a warranty. The fellow member spliced his wires which I did not..I used the wire from the harness I bought to use as a jumper wire..the plastic plug end on my old and new plug I depined for that clean factory look. After all was in place I went to fire the truck and boom the truck sounded way better and stronger. The hei distributor from summit racing was super happy..checked for charging and it read 14.02...super happy here..cheap and simple to do. I threw the old external regulator as far as I could..lol
Anyone need a hand with this conversion feel free to ask away..I know there are plenty of write ups but the pictures are usually misleading.

For the power wire to the HEI, did you use the factory wire out of the firewall plug with the braided covering? If so, that is a type of wire with built in resistance. I would remove that wire and use a regular 14-12 ga wire in its place so as to not have a voltage drop to the HEI.

I actually checked for power there but their was none..there was a blue wire with a white stripe which was also keyed power. However that one lost power when cranking. I used a
12 gauge black wire that was on the passenger side harness along with the wires mentioned above and the starter wires. Not sure where that comes from.

So I ran the plumbing for the trans cooler lines. I used 5/16 steel brake line and used transmission rubber lines at the tranny and at the cooler..I also installed my driveshaft with new u joints.I used my old driveshaft but had them install a slip yoke for my th350. I went to add some trans fluid and went through 2 gallons or about when I see some red fluid creeping towards my feet..after a few f bombs I noticed that it was coming from my kickdown cable location..The trans only had a slip on plastic plug which went unoticed by me lol.. So now I need a kickdown cable aka dentent cable or a plug...my initial thought was not to run one however now I believe it would be best to run one just as a plug and hook it up to the carb at a later time...any ideas as to how to plug up..I could tap it but I have limited room under the truck..If I chose to hook it up to the carb it seems that my carb is limited to holes that would receive the wire..

Its and old school carter 4 barrel..

Sorry fellas...been to busy at work and with the truck to come on here and keep my post updated. Here are some pics of where the truck is at now. Truck is sitting on 20" rev 107.
Fronts are 20x8.5 4.5 bs
Rears are 20x9.5 5.25 bs
Used some gibbs oil on the paint..awesome product.
