Faking the patina makes the baby jesus cry .......

It's cool to see this thread as I mostly been into VW's for years. I had thought( till now )that a small core of VW people only liked the patina ...

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

I was told about guys from down south driving up to the midwest, buying our old salt rusted buckets for cheap, then filling and smoothing the bodies, spraying that acid junk on the fresh paint to make the appearance of "patina" and reselling them to unsuspecting patrons for much much more. When i bought my 72' it almost looked like someone had attempted to achieve a makeshift "patina" look. The paint had been rattle canned on and rattle can clear was flaking off all over the place. Unfortunately, they used black, so it just looked like a drunk guy painted it with his feet. I also found alot of putty smeared in the door corners at the bottoms.

Not shop truck or patina trucks, but these are some pretty cool looking rat rod style trucks.

Me too!!! I've played around with the idea of using a Blazer guard on my 67', was told it would fit.
