i decided the bumper had to go. found a used chrome one, sanded it down, and experimented with a little fauxtina. what do you think? the brackets should arrive today...

The bumper looks good ,can you explain each step on how you did that ?

thanks. i'm no expert on this stuff. i sanded off the chrome plating with a grinder and flex pad. 3 heavy coats of flat black primer. 2 thin coats of white semi gloss. let it dry overnight. used a scotchbrite pad water to wear down the high spots to reveal the black. i used some various hand tools to make some random chips and scrapes. i went heavy on the black primer in case i got carried away with the scotchbrite pad. it's a rattle can job, but i figured if it wears after a while it will just add to the patina effect.

Thanks for the schooling on the bumper ,I may need to do that if I ever find a used sport bumper for my 74 stepside .

well it's a sad day for me, but hopefully a good day for the new owner. truck is on the way to its new home in sacramento.
