technicly, they didn't actually add to the frame... but it is longer than the normal LWB truck frame though.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

option Z84 makes it a CST.
Added chrome, added trim, nicer seat with plush door panels and carpet... a few other pieces thrown in too.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

Ok since this thread already strayed from longhorn to CST. I have another
question. I have a custom/10 shortbed. What made it custom? Only came
with a six, and no options to speak of.

GM never saved the production numbers of options in these trucks.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

Why did GM end production of the longhorn in '73? My guess the longhorn was mainly introduced for the camper industy and popular campers during the era did not fit properly. What the public really needed was a 1 ton pickup with standard 8' body, which Chevy first started offering in '73.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

that, or since the LWB was 131 inches in 73, I doubt they had a 133 inch wheel base frame, so they just ditched the whole thing.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

Here is the GMC version, "Custom Camper", that showed up where I work last July '09 to repair our electric gates. None of the workers knew anything about it except that it was just one of the boss' trucks. Cool to see some of these old trucks still doing what a truck is supposed to do, but on the other hand it's hard to think of of it worked beyond repair too!!

Later---DAC

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

I had allways thought the only C-30 Longhorns were the 9' stepsides. Are the 9' stepsides concidered Longhorns? Well here's mine, bought in 2000, started driving it in about 2005. Every panel is bent and or rusted. The front end is shot and has a broken coil spring but I drive it every day it is the only thing I've had to drive for the last 6 years, everything else is in peices. I haul scrap or derby cars or whatever, never lets me down.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

Here is a C/30 Longhorn for you to enjoy. It has just about everything except a Tachometer. This is my other truck; it has been a desert truck all of its life. No Rust!

So then they would just be a single tire 1 ton then? I could swear I saw a Craigslist ad on here once for a 9' stepside 1 ton that they were calling a Longhorn. Maybe they were assuming it was. Just trying to learn more about these trucks.

Re: need to ask - whats a longhorn?

you couldn't get daul rear wheels with a stepside or fleetside bed. Only cab/chassis trucks came with that option.
A lot of people think the 9 footer is a longhorn. But the longhorn nameplate is tied to the model number. And only the 8 1/2 foot fleetside got the model number. When I lived in Texas, I got a lot of comments of it being a 'texas' longhorn.
It's all on my longhorn website http://www.longhorntrucks.freeservers.com/
