Plans for your trucks this year?

Me, I'm going to replace my new correct oil pan bolts, because the bolts for the timing chain cover are too short with a on-piece gasket, same with the rears. Another lesson learned. I suppose I could install a cork gasket, but nah, I'll use ARP bolts. A little irritating, I like correct bolts But a matching set will have to work. At least they're black and a better bolt, the others are clear.

Other than that I hope to have my chassis done by spring. Then I face the reality paint prison may be too long, which means plan B. Plan B has a reputation, and he charges for it too. It's another 7K to get him motivated, and I haven't even asked. Thing is he'll get it done. He's even my nephew.........

He did these for me recently, $200, which was a deal. But I know better. 16K minimum. The bed is already done less paint, and the rest is a nice start. I'll get a dry run and the moldings installed for it. Then I'm looking at 2020 to finish. Takes me so long

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

Its a little early, but ill try. I plan on having it drivable by may. I've about finished the wiring and I hate wring. Gonna need wheels and tires, but working on a seat first. Burnouts by May, that's the goal.

Lowering my 1970 SWB step by 4/6 and adding disc brakes, hopefully. I have a lot of things on my list, but that would make it more enjoyable to drive at least.

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

A whole lot more than last year. I'm not even going to say what I hope to get done. Kind like a new years resolution. Don't want to set myself up for failure. I could make a list of what the '72 needs and see what's checked off a year from today. The big things needed are repair rockers/one corner/new body mounts/window seals & anti-rattle on the body and seals in engine/trans/t-case. Tunes would also be nice.

You got any plans for the 67 stepper Tim?
The cab and engine/trans are back on the frame right?

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

My freshly rebuilt 700r4 transmission is installed and tomorrow I take the driveshaft in to be shortened and re-balanced. It will be back on the road next week but as this is my first 700r4, I have a lot to learn about getting it setup. I went with a local shop to build it and a mechanic I have know for years is doing the install and both are very experienced with this swap. I sure hope it helps my gas mileage!

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

OMG, already putting the pressure on! Ok I did make a few trades yesterday on some parts and some whole trucks. And made arrangements for storage and shipping. So If I can keep this up ... OK, I wont be able to do that. No biggie though, I think I have the most fun just moving stuff around =)

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

When I changed the oil in the fall I found coolant but I haven’t had the time to mess with it. So I need to hunt down the problem.

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

Fix the rockers, corners, and cab supports.
Rust repair on the door bottoms.
Mock up the engine and transmission and make a crossmember for the TKO500.
Get the parts and build the Vortec headed 383.
Mount the rear tank and mod/fit the bed floor accordingly.
Paint the frame so maybe I can attempt to assemble this pile of parts.

Man, I better get my butt to work

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

Finish the disc brake conversion. Get front end back together. Get engine running and drive it. Missed last summer by dragging feet and don’t want to miss a second. Will be installing 4speed but will need to build a console at that time so if the three speed makes it through another summer behind the v8 then 4speed is next winter project. If it breaks that will move up on the list.

Not sure how to turn pic, that makes Me dizzy. Sorry guys.

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

Rebuild the transfer case, find a proper bench seat, and hopefully find some driver quality doors and a better box.

All fairly simple(hopefully) stuff really, but I want to get my 61 done before I go too crazy with this one. Two trucks torn apart = nothing gets done ever.

Re: Plans for your trucks this year?

Plans for 2019:
1. Drive truck way more often (only managed approx. 400 miles last year)
2. Repair leaking rear main seal
3. Replace HEI distributor with a small body HEI
4. Lower the truck down to stock height (ok, maybe stock plus 1"zero rate)
