Re: Disappointed

Having just re-wired my truck, I got a couple of 60-66 sets from the usual vendors and a universal grommet kit for some other items like my power window, TCM, various relay harnesses, and air lines.

Re: Disappointed

I thought I read somewhere that they came with them, but mine did not either. I spent another $20 or so on them.

Re: Disappointed

You bought a wiring harness and your "disappointed you did not receive rubber grommets... Were the grommets listed in the description as part of wiring package?

I was in the same boat, brother. But once you start installing the kit you'll realize it was a minor inconvenience. You'll realize that it's a great kit and definitely worth the money. Super easy to understand and install.

Re: Disappointed

I love these guys. As far as the lack of grommets, some folks (I am one of them) were able to re-use the stock grommets as they were in great condition. I would have been angry if I had to pay for expensive parts that I did not need. Especially since they sell them independently.

If you had used the tools of this forum you could have done a search and found a step by step thread on installing this exact kit into a truck just like yours.

Installation thread

I wasn't able to reuse my grommets and I was 90% I had to buy new ones, so it wasn't that big of a deal. I would have been surprised if they were included. I think they used to be included.

I used your install thread when I was (still finishing) doing my harness. It was very helpful. Thanks Robert!

Re: Disappointed

Well Robert I don’t need an installation thread to install my wiring and I’m glad you didn’t have to pay for sum thing you didn’t need, but if you would pay attention you would see that that you continue to pay more for less

Re: Disappointed

Some folks just can not be satisfied.

I have used Painless wiring harnesses as well as a couple from Ron Francis and I will state with zero hesitation that the AAW harness for our trucks is heads and shoulders over all of them, heck they are not even in the same league.

I like it so much I bought 3 more since I wired mine.

Well if you had read the thread it would have spelled out in plain language what the kit comes with and more importantly in your case, what the kit does NOT come with.

So yea maybe you do need an installation thread.

Re: Disappointed

I spoke with a very good friend whos a "higher up" at American Autowire and works directly in designing these kits. His reply was that, "in most cases, guys rebuilding their trucks have already purchased the Rubber Kits for the whole truck with these grommets . AAW offers these separate to "CUT" the cost of the harness instead of giving you a bunch of extras you don't need" . Like in Roberts case where he did not need them. In other words , you get to choose and in the end you SAVE money. I see these kinds of responses more and more , especially on social media where there's a lot of low budget builders and no end to opinions. You get what you pay for , quality .

If you buy their restoration harnesses , they are included. Being that these are for custom trucks , mainly , how are they supposed to know what you are building and how. If you read a smart ass comment in there , that's your interpretation , not mine. But to ***** about a $3.00-$4.00 part when your receiving a high quality item from a well respected company in the industry , seems a bit petty.

I bet that is where I saw they were included..in the restoration harness!

Just my $.02, but I think this thread has runs its course. NSB is disappointed and aggravated that the thread didn't garner the sympathy it was intended. I have now officially unsubscribed from the thread. Good luck with the grommets or lack thereof.

Re: Disappointed

After thinking about this for a couple of days I decided I’m the one that started the stupid thread and believe I’m the one that should end it. I was not looking for anyone to agree with me or disagree with me but what I was not looking for was is information and had asked if this was a normal grommet as I had nothing to go bye, but what I got was is a smart ass SHSAHS. I got my ass up and for that I apologize. And then came Robert he tried to out do SHSAHS. I have tried to be a supporting member and would never go on someone else’s thread and be a smart ass. As far as 6066 goes I understand he was just trying to be Informative..
And now I understand all the wiring harness that I have done in the past have been restoration harnesses that came with all necessary grommets, this is the first kit that I have bought and would have thought that they would have been included. I did take offense to the comment about low budget builds and the endless opinions if I read something into that that wasn’t there I apologize.

Re: Disappointed

I apologize for coming off like a smart ass.

I have ordered many things that arrived in what I considered incomplete. I am an old man and have learned to blame myself more often then not. I get lazy or in a hurry and don't research or even bother to read the fine print. My fault. However in this thread I should have been empathic, and sympathetic to your plight and perhaps you would have seen I meant no harm and in fact wanted to hlp not only you but anyone that read your thread due to my high regard for AAW and their products.

I do hope you have a beautiful holiday and get your harness wrapped up in the exact way you desire.

Robert
