Ceramic Coating?

I'm thinking of purchasing Hooker's pre bent exhaust system for my 72 K5 Blazer. Would it be worth it to have the pipes ceramic coated? I think it will like double the price. Any info appreciated.

Thanks
James

Tube headers have two major drawbacks. Heat and rust. Heat is emitted into your engine compartment, causing premature exhaust cooling and increasing the temp of intake air, both limit performance. Just how much I don't know. Rust never sleeps, and will eat away at the headers, shortening their life. Ceramic coating reduces heat emission and stops rust. I have uncoated headers, installed by the previous owner. It gets hot in the cab in the summer. When I have the opportunity, I will be replacing with ceramic coated.

It's very much worth it based on Fred T's remarks.

I agree on coating the headers. That's not even a question for me. I was wondering if coating the actual exhaust piping from header back would be worth it?

Thanks
James

:lightbulb:

I don't think it would, I mean sure go for it, it will make it last longer, but I wouldn't think that it would make a big difference, since it is in the outside air and cool's off a lot faster then Header's themselves.

My super comps were originally coated at the factory but that wore off along time ago . I've been touching them up with hi-temp paint but really need to get new ones. The headers work great for now though.

if your worried about the pipes that much get stainless pipes even aluminized holds up very well probably 4 or 5 times longer than a stock exhaust.being under the truck i think the ceramic would chip and as soon as it chips its all over the rest of it will begin to flake off

I'm not really worried about it, I just saw it as an option on the holley site and wanted to see if it was a worthwile deal. After talking to you guys though I think I'll stick with the normal tubing. My Blazer's a daily driver anyway.

Thanks
James
