At that point - under dash planning - Vintage air (compact unit) mockup and windshield wipers. Does anyone have or know a good thread where this was done showing pics? Just trying to figure out how high I can mount the unit under the dash - need to get some kind of bracket for the defrost and then need to make sure that the windshield wiper arms have room. I dont have any parts at all with regards to the wipers. 1956

Any suggestions on all this are appreciated.

i used the VA compac unit on truk. i also shaved the glovebox door, so i knew i had to be able to drop it out if it ever needed service. i welded all my brackets in early on, you can see the cab hasn't been sand blasted yet. ask all the questions you want.

pass side bracket is a bent angle with 2 bolts welded in the angle. i believe it's welded to the hood hinge reinforcement. all hoses are detachable and long enough to drop the unit without bleeding freon.

my truk was a virgin when i hit the first hot rod power tour, the ac worked great until i started moving, then it blew hot air. i bypassed the water lines in knoxville and had ice cold air for the rest of the 100° plus week. turns out i had the hot water valve backwards and it's located on top of the unit. i was able to drop it and switch it around without bleeding freon.

the drivers side has 2 brackets welded in. the tab is welded to the front lip of the dash, easy enough. the rear bracket is hard to see behind the defrost tube. it uses the VA bracket with 2 bolts into the unit, i welded a 2 inch tab above it with a single welded bolt to hang it. it's quite tight up there, i welded the bolts in so only 1 hand and wrench to remove the nuts. i used the stock defrost vents.

i used the surefit parts for the condenser, nothing really fit. it probably designed around the 55-57 core support. the dryer mounts next to the radiator, i believe it used one of the VA hard lines. the 5th line on the firewall is my front electrical; headlight, turn, horn, fan and compressor power

i wanted the compressor low, sorta incognito, so i made the compressor bracket. it's a little industrial looking but it works.
