my opinions i only think sunroofs look good on sports cars and suv... it looks goofy on mustangs.... i think it would look weird on these trucks but its your truck do what you please

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

If you plan on keeping it poke a hole in the top. If not, you will not have very many people think it was a good idea when you try to sell it. As long as you understand that 99% of the people who see it will cringe, then go ahead.

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

I had one professionally installed in a 69 about 30 years ago and it was the best available at the time- It always leaked as the others have said, when I tried to sell it years later the s/r was a big turnoff.
It sucks having wet seats and carpet. Maybe your experience wont be the same.

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

There's a member on here somewhere with a swb stepper GMC that's yellow with a sunroof. It was a Truck of the Month a couple years ago. You might be able to find pics of it in the archives.

That being said...I wouldn't cut it if it was mine. I also wouldn't consider buying a truck with a sunroof unless it was cheap enough to factor in replacing the cab.

But, it's your truck. Build it to suit your tastes. I would suggest that if you go through with it that you save the pieces that are going to have to be cut out. At least that way if you ever change your mind it'll be a bit easier finding pieces of metal to fill the holes back in.

As far as not having any intentions of selling goes.... We all know our toys are what go first when times get hard. Build it like you're going to keep it forever. Build it to suit yourself. Just keep in the back of your mind that IF you ever had to move it....are your mods going to make it more or less desirable to any potential buyers?

Good luck bro! I'd roll that truck just like it is!

As far as a head turner goes I like your ride man! But if I went to buy her from ya and she had a sunroof I would probably pass it by. I would rather just buy a Blazer if I want some wind in my hair! To each his own tho!

How about putting in a sliding rear window to help circulate the air? If you don't like it, you can always swap it back out for a solid one.

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

You'll be sorry! I bought a half done project for parts. The cab is perfect except the guy cut it for a sun roof. I got the sunroof to go in it and the hole is precision, but it is just ugly. It is an air cab with all the rust areas replaced, but the roof is cut. Don't do it!!!!!!! It is your truck and if that's what you want ...... But why not wait and think it through and give the "wild hair" a chance to go away.

On the other hand, different preferences made Baskin-Robbins successful, didn't it.

My '67 cab has one. The rubber around the seal is shot from critters chewing on it. This one looks like water would sit on top of it like a puddle.

We have one of those convertible Dakotas around here. I've always wanted to see the guy at a gas station and see it up close.

I say don't do it. The thing about sunroofs(sunrooves?...hoof/hooves. lol) is they ALL leak. Only, cars designed with them have a drip pan, and drain tubes to let the water out.

I vote NO. But I'm not one to stick to conformist ways either. Cut it if you want.

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

Just my opinion leave the top alone, if you got money burning a whole in your pocket think about a role down back window, leaves the stock look but adds a pretty cool feature, I also think a sunroof will break up the smooth lines your have. but again its your truck do what makes you happy, if we all did what makes others happy we would be on a hybrid forum talking about our 2 cylinders pushing 55mph

It's not all that bad, the sunroof's top side is like 2-way glass so it reflects a lot of light off. But, I also wear a hat most all the time.

It came with my truck, and at 1st I didn't like it. Kinda do now, when it doesn't leak (sometimes when shutting it doesn't seal right I guess). Helps keep things cool though when cruising. With the windows down on the freeway, it draws the hot air out. Also helps keep the cab aired out during burnouts

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

I love sunroofs so I say go for it! Get a top of the line sunroof and install and maintain it correctly.
My project was cut by the PO and I've got a quality sunroof to go in it...specific to the truck & tinted dark.

I've owned 5 vehicles with sunroofs and, IMHO, any leak problems seem have been due to cheap or older
units unsuited to the vehicle's roof line, poor installs, dry or worn out gaskets or dirty/broken mating parts.

As far as appearance goes...I can't see the roof when I'm sittin' in the pilots chair!

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

I had a jeep comanche pick up in 1986 that I had a company called Ziebart install one on it,,,was cool during cruising times but when it rain it poured inside the truck. If I could do it again I would NOT...Had that truck for several years till I gave it to my dad then my younger brother drove it...

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

I would pass on the sunroof too.

I really like the wind in my face/hair, but sunroofs aren't that great.

My Volvo wagon has a factory sunroof and to be honest, it isn't all that great. Even the factory sunroofs are known for leaking and destroying the headliners.

My Karmann Ghia is a factory convertable and that is fun. I did learn not to jump in it with the top down wearing shorts in the summer time. Them black vinyl seats get real HOT in the sun

To each their own, but the only major problem I see with this mod. Is that if you don't like it, for what ever reasons, it would be a PIA to return it back to stock.

99.8% I believe would be a better #!!! I think after the sunroof some Chevy van high back bucket seats would be in order!

Mine only leaks if I close the driver side latch before the passenger side, it's wierd. If I keep this cab, I want to switch over to one of the retracting rag top sun roofs, those are badass!

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

I had a sun roof in an old honda I had in the early 90's when I lived in Tx, it was a stock one, and it never leaked, however, I didn't have a sun cover for it either. it had a factory tint, I limo tinted it on the inside, and it was still too hot, so i limo tinted it again, and it was still too much sun and heat. I liked it, but I hated it just as much.
I had other cars in teh past with aftermarket ones, and I'm even guilty of installing a few in my younger days... The cheap ones leak from day one. The better ones wait a while to start leaking.
Now, if I was dead nuts set on installing one in one of these trucks, I would look into a moon roof. When it is closed, most ppl would hardly know it is there. Manual crank would be cheaper and more dependable, but electric would be neat to play with and try to impress chicks with.

Re: any c-10's with sunroof?

You don't know hot until you drive a third gen firebird with T-Tops, untinted windows and no AC. Nothing like heat from all sides. The sun shades didn't do a lot towards keeping the car cool, with that massive rear hatch back window. Needless to say I spent much of summer in a plain white Tee with the t-tops off.

Here's some pics of the Sunroof.

Don't do it, I have a near perfect cab in my Garage for my 68 project. It has a sunroof cut in it. I hate it. So I have a replacement roof waiting to go on it.
It just doesn't look right on this trucks. Thats my .02
