Holy crap, I just noticed the bumper guards. That puts it over the top in my book, absolutely love this truck.

Re: 1968 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 lwb step side?

Thanks guys for all your comments. I will go ahead and tell all of you that while i have turned a few wrenches i know very little about these trucks as far as options and specifics like trim and options. Here is what i do know about this truck. When i bought it it had what i was told was a 302 in it, but didn't run and the clutch was shot. The drivelines were in poor shape, as were the hub bearings, seals and brake drums and rotors. We have installed a freshly built 350 with about 325 hp and 425 ft/lbs. I forget the exact numbers that it had on the dino. We have repaired or replaced all of the other issues.

What gear ratio would have been standard on a truck like this, and what would have been the optional gear ratios. Also, what would the disignation be for this truck is it a c20 k20 etc. I am not familiar with how these are named.

C are 2wd ,K are 4wd. Take pics of the glove box spid label if you have one. This will help decode what you have .

4.57 I believe were the stock ratio and there probably was no option listed.

It would be known as a K2500

If it is an original V-8 truck then:

The VIN will start KE20C-_ _ _ _ _ _ _

The model number is KE2590C

Re: 1968 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 lwb step side?

One reason chevy and others used to offer this seemingly weird version. (Who would want a long wheelbase work truck with such a small inside bed?) was for up fitters for installing utility beds. They could work right off inner panels and hang their bedsides with the tool boxes etc built into them. That way they didn't have to build the whole bed just the sides. That fell out of style and now obviously the up fitters make the whole bed itself, and you order the truck without any bed.

That green 4x4 GMC is awesome, I wish it were a 3/4 ton.. then it would be my dream truck.
Still didnŽt give up the hope to actually find a 69-72 K2500 long step with a manual!

Re: 1968 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 lwb step side?

Hey guys it's been a while since i've been on, but just wanted to update yall. I have now been driving the truck regularly for the past 3 weeks, and couldn't be happier with it. Still needs lots of work between body, hooking up the front drive shaft, and hooking up most of the gauges (so far only the all important temp and oil pressure are working)!
The motor is good and healthy, and will burn those 35's until I pull out of it!

Where can i find a oem style license plate lamp assembly for this truck (preferrably LED as that is what I am going to switch all of the running lights, reverse lights, etc. to.)

Re: 1968 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 lwb step side?

Just got the truck back from my mechanic and what a beautifull job he did. I took it to him to have a basic tune up and oil change done, and ended up with a $2700+ bill. Everything he touched was in desperate need of repair or replacement. Nearly all of the wiring under the hood is new along with a new battery, radiator, distributor, and lots of TLC.

WOW, sorry to hear you had to sepnd that much on it! But a truck like that is well worth it! Hope it rides nice and smooth again now.

Do you happen to have a full side shot of the truck? IŽd like to see the side view with the lift, the mag wheels on a long step. That would be perfect! Thanks!

Re: 1968 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 lwb step side?

I will do my best to get a picture tomorrow assuming it doesn't snow too much tonight and tomorrow! You say those are mag wheels? I don't know much about wheel styles, so you are teaching me what I have. The only bad things about those wheels, and tires for that matter, is that there is a pretty serious ding in the driver's rear wheel right in the bead area, the rubber is dry rotted, and even if the wheels were in good shape they are still 16.5". Darn!!!

Should I start a new thread on this build in the correct section. I don't know the etiquette concerning weather or not I should be talking about my build in this section or the other. A little guidance would be greatly appreciated.
