Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

Just watched the episode on Velocity.Nice truck but ....cutting a piece of plywood and
"Fiberglassing" it onto the fan shroud because it's running hot going down the road LOL.
Couldn't get the windshield installed because the pinch weld was in an 1/8 at one spot
then used the wrong rubber wout the trim.
To top it off they charged the old man over $18,000
WOW

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

It looked to me like it was a very cheap, flimsy, ill-fitting fan shroud. They went to a lot of trouble to cob up a fix. Wonder why they didn't just try to get a good shroud....

Part of that very expensive tab was to pull the trans & t-case and make gaskets to seal it all up, also had to machine a coupler shaft that was badly out-of-round. And they changed the lug studs from 1/2" to 9/16" -- fronts went OK but the rears had to be drilled out.

And they replaced the distribution block to get the rear brakes to work.

Still seems like a ton of $$$ for what they did.

They charge huge dollars on that show. Makes me wonder how many people out there have six figures to spend on resto work.

Show is not watchable, closeups always show paint and workmanship flaws. We all just need a legit show without all the drama. Which shows do you guys find to watch?

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

I'll watch pretty much anything, it beats the Disney channel that is on around my playhouse the other 23 hours a day.. Having said that, it boggles my mind that there isn't a dedicated show out there that does resto/mild trucks. It would be so popular. To me, the 3 episodes a year of "Trucks!" that get replayed the rest of the year don't cut it, and the Extreme Off Road show is a little too modified for my taste (but the guy sure knows what he's doing, just not my cup of tea). Aside from the stupid antics that get on my nerves, I like the work that they do on Graveyard cars. Wish they had a Graveyard (Chevy) Trucks show... A no-kidding dedicated Chevy Truck show. Could be called "Actualhaulin..." Ooh, I like that

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

There was ls swap done to a 70s chevy on garage squad there a while ago. The best part is when my 6 year old boy asked why they didn't take off the bumper support bracket so you walk into it a million times. Lol.

There was another one done aswell on a short box which was pretty sad cause they ordered basically a new truck from lmc and a new pro touring frame. Can't remember the show name.

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

I agree, Iron Resurrection is the best show right now

The guy that owns fantom works is such a pain in the arse, cant even stand it when he starts to talk. Plus what he charges is ridiculous for taking 6 months to 2 years to get a car driveable again

Optimistically looking forward to the new show Roadkill

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

I just watched an episode with a Shelby mustang. At the end he quoted $50,000.00 for the parts and 2200 hours in labor over the year and a half they had it. I would think they charge at least sixty bucks an hour for labor. At that rate it is a total parts and labor of $182,000.00 for that job.

I showed that episode to the wife, especially the $18K Bill. She about fell down.....Damn shame how in good conscious a bill like that could be handed to someone. Very nice truck...

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

I can watch Legendary Motorcar & Graveyard Carz. At least the resto work is pretty well detailed. They don't have the bullcrap last minute rush to slap stuff together before a deadline drama.

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

This show annoys me sooooooo much. Everything is sooooo exaggerated. They are surprised every time someone brings a vehicle in and it has a problem. NO KIDDING! your a repair shop and you hope it has problems! The show looks like it is from 80's the way they look and dress. Get a updated t shirt and logo,, take some notes from Gas Monkey t shirts. I only watch it to see the cars that go thru there. You could buy 4 cars for what they charge for restorations. Customers could have Chip Foose restore their cars for what they charge, ok I'm exaggerating .

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

I like the shows that actually show how to do some of the work and I don't like the drama, screaming, and cussing. Not many shows like that out there. The Grave yard guys show some of their work but they're not the comedians they think they are. I like some of the Kindigit shows but I'm not really into high dollar hot rods. I would really like to see a good "how to" type show centered on old trucks, especially GMs.

Re: Anyone see the 69 K20 on Fantom Works

Everything is dramatized and exaggerated to the point of being a cartoon. Example: A scene of backing out of a parking space at the grocery store... here we go.

"If billy cuts the steering wheel too far to the right his front fender will clip the car next too him, if he doesn't cut the wheel far enough he could back into the car behind him. He has to watch his rear view mirror for pedestrians, making it even more dangerous." Camera man jerks the camera and does a funky angle. the camera shoots the driver jamming on the brakes. the drivers head jerks back... pretending like there was a wreck.

BREAK FOR LONG COMMERCIAL. "Buy LMC Crap parts commercial... ect..."

Viewer waits chewing his finger nails too find out what happened in the tricky and dangerous backing out of the parking spot scene.

BACK FROM COMMERCIAL..

Review last five minutes of show leading up the the last commercial. Turns out all was OK.... That was a close one!

BREAK FOR LONG COMMERCIAL.

And it goes on like this for an hour! Mental chewing gum!

That owner on "Fantom Works" is such a tool ! He exagerates EVERYTHING and everything on a vehicle is a "system". His clients must be clueless to pay for his work.

Safety First! Then he takes the cars out and slams the brakes to see how the "system" operates.

"Who's Edd?" "Edd's dead, baby" Name that show. Ok, it's "Zed", but anyway, Edd China isnt on Wheeler Dealers anymore. The new guy is good too. I always thought it was funny how they total up the parts and then say what they sold it for, which is usually just a little more than the parts total. I guess Edd worked for free! In this regard, the show is actually pretty realistic. Most of us know that there is not much money in building wrecks to sell.

You actually liked the stuff with Darin? That guy was annoying as hell! Granted the new stuff with his daughter is pretty annoying. I wonder when she and the painter guy will finally "get it on". They have been playing grab ass like high school kids since she came on the show...

I found it interesting that no one could figure out how to put the glass back in. THat was me the first time I had to do it. Someone else had taken it apart and left me to put back together. Now I know, thanks to this site!

... and then there's the highly dramatic backfire through the carburetor pretty much every time they start their newest "build" on all of these shows ... pretty corny
