Hey, (late) Welcome!
I think you've got a great project and it's coming along nicely! Keep up the good work, and keep posting up those pics, we love pics!
BTW, I thought those welds looked great compared to mine!

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

OK so I missed a weekend. Been busy with work. But last weekend I sand blasted the controlled arms, installed the new shaft and bushing kits, pressed in the lower ball joints, and bolted in the upper ball joints. I read a thread on here about upgrading the u-bolts for the lower control arms. So I drilled out the original holes to 9/16ths and installed the lowers with the upgraded u-bolts. Ready to get the front bag brackets drilled and installed this coming weekend. Can't wait to get it back on its wheels so I can clean the shop. Lots of packed in dirt and grease falling out every time I hit the impact! Lol

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

So its been awhile since I've posted anything, but I have been working on her. I got the new spindles and disk brakes in. all the tie rods are greased and in, and she's back on her shoes! I had to make my own lower bag mount since the ones that came with the kit seemed to rub on the bag at the factory ride height. WTH is up with that? so aired out the bags don't rub and the bumper now is 6.5 inches of the ground. so I think we got it where I want it. again I ain't going for a frame dragger, but I do want the ride height to be 3-4 inches lower than stock with the ability to raise and lower it for cruising. So here are a few Pic's

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

So I decided to pull the trigger and I'm going to get a new motor so the next step is to pull the motor and trans. and while their out Is a good time to get the new brake lines in, and paint the engine bay. Route the air lines and new fuel lines.
Aaand Begin!

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

Ok!
So that's done. Now next weekend I can clean it all up and get the new brake, fuel and air lines in. Then decide which motor I'm going to go with and get it ordered. May take a bit. I had to dip into my funds due to a family emergency that took me out of work for the last almost 3 weeks, but if all goes well I'll be ready for it in a couple weeks. It should take me a couple weekends to get it ready anyways

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

So Last weekend I was able to get some work done. I got the P.O.R. 15 system and decided to try it out on the back half of the frame first. I did the 3 steps as required and not bad! Looks pretty good. So next will be the engine bay.

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

A few updates. I haven't been in the shop since the 20th. Dealing with some family stuff so i'm down in Florida. But before I left I got some stuff done

1. got the old gear box off and drilled the holes to mount the new Power steering gear box using captfabs power steering adapter kit

2. Mocked up the new brake master and booster using Captfabs power booster bracket

2. got the engine comp. cleaned up and POR 15 it.

3. got the air solenoids mounted

Next thing is to run the air lines, brake lines, and fuel lines.
and mount the air tank and compressor.

Then maybe I can start working on putting it back together.

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

Got some go fast parts in the mail while I was gone..

Used Holley Stealth Ram MPFI system, with crane ignition box, and a Holley Distributor. only used 500 miles and the car got wrecked. been sitting but all seems good. Now to pick a crate motor to put it on.

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

Just purchased this motor from Summit. http://high-performance-engines.com/...duct_Code=HP89

Can't wait to start putting it all back together. A few small details to button up. (like its ever that simple) and I can start putting her back together. Hopefully have her on the road as soon as spring melts the oncoming snow.. yuck! Come on Spring...

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

So you did go with the 375hp engine

So Holley said the Stealth Ram would be tuneable with that cam?

Yep! Called Holley and gave them the specs of the cam and motor and he stated as long as the lobe separation was between 112-114 it would be fine.

Don't know what the lobe separation Is exactly because the guy at ATK isn't allowed to tell me unless I buy one. But he said it was within that spec.

The cheaper motor wasn't available thru Summit and I would have had to pay tax on it thru ATK since they have a distribution center in Indian. I would have had to purchase smaller injectors also. so for a few hundred more i'm getting a lot more motor.

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

Got the motor out of the crate and on the stand. Did a little mock up. Just couldn't wait to see what it would look like and make sure everything was going to line up.

The last Pic is the boss "Maggie" and she approves this engine.

Moving along pretty fast, looks like a nice shop to keep you motivated. an organized shop will save you a lot of time. I seem to spend most of my time in the shop looking for something. I like the red chair with the tool bin below it. That crate motor looks like it found a good home. enjoy

Re: Newbie with a simple 64 Stepper Build...

That seemed fairly quick on the delivery of your engine.

I see yours got the Pro Filer heads. Those are supposed to be really good heads. I did notice the large 'D' port exhaust ports. Have you checked into what headers will accomodate those exhaust ports?
