Ididit tilt steering column.

I installed a ididit tilt steering column in place of a non tilt factory column. I install with the “ tit “ in the dash that supposedly goes in the slot in the column to prevent the steering column from sliding forward in a collision. When it is in that location the shifter housing rubs on the instrument cluster. Anyone else had that problem. I would move forward but I already cut the new shaft that connects to the power steering box to fit it’s current location.

Can you post a couple of pictures? I have never had an aftermarket column but I can't quite visualize what you are dealing with here.

I'll post a couple of pictures when I get a chance. I'll have to pull the instrument cluster and lower the steering column so you can see what I'm talking about. I will say that I watched a column install from Brothers and they claim the column has an oblong hole in it and the part of the dash the column sits in which gets the strap with the 2-5/16 bolts that secure the column has a small tit that lines up with the oblong hole in the column. They claim that tit prevents the column from sliding forward in a crash. So with the tit in the oblong hole in the column, the shifter housing is rubbing on the instrument bezel. I think I know what the solution is but I wanted to see if there were others that had this issue. I think I just need to either trim the bezel so it no longer rubs, or drill another hole further down the column so the column is further into the truck and the shifter housing isn't rubbing. Sorry this is so long winded, I'm just trying to be more clear.

I understand the boss and the hole in the column. You won't need to take it apart to take pictures. Those columns must be made completely different than the stock ones, shortened maybe. A stock column has 4 - 6 inches of clearance between the shift collar and dash, depending on whether it is a standard or tilt.. Hopefully someone will chime in on this that has one of those columns.

I guess I would be calling idiot and sending them these pictures, looks like they may have sent you the wrong column.

I just installed mine last week and it looks that way also, I would be very interested in hearing what IDIDIT comes back with.
