This is one sweet build. Maybe I missed it, what is the current height and tire combo on the truck right now?

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I feel your pain with them dang Pittman arms, on mine I took a factory 4x4 Pittman arm, and heated it up til it was red hot, and then put a long pipe on it, and bent both ends of it at 50 degree bends or so.. And it works fine, but I'm runnin factory steerin on my rig.. So it's probably different.. Looks good with the bed on er! That things freakin smooth man, lookin good!(:

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Rgreathouse just wanted to say hi from a fellow swap enthusiast. I usually cruise the 2wd section but something has been pulling me to the 4x4 section. Really love your swap and nice fab work. I actually live below you in Ione and have recently finished ls conversion on my 69 2wd. Been thinking about a future 4x4 build with ls until I saw this build got my wheels turning. Also would love to meet you and maybe see this project in person. I'm usually messing around in my buddies shop at the old Jackson ford dealership now sterling automotive and my name is Dan. This is my truck if you ever see it in the county hope you don't mind posting on your thread just excited to know another enthusiast is in the county.

Hey got another question about the lift springs....did you have to do anything for the extra weight of the cummins?

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I have superlift hd springs... Superlift rates them for a heavier load on front suspension from added weight of big bumpers, winches or in my case a cummins. Someone correct me if i am wrong but I believe the difference in weight between a sbc and a 12v cummins is around 400Lbs.

A 5.9 is roughly 1050lbs with no fluids, a/c and alt. I haven't had any issues with rough country or skyjacker springs in conversion trucks.

By the way, nice work on your cross over steering.

Yeah it gives me something to strive toward. You're definitely setting the bar high for some of us, but that's what makes a great truck!

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

One thing I am wondering about your steering set up is: Why do you have the pitman arm clocked at that angle instead of straight back to get even ratio right to left? The only thing I can think of is you're trying to add to the length of travel for turning to the right?

Love the build! Very cool seeing you build your dream truck. You asked for inputso - not much I would change- I could TOTALLY rock out in that thing the way it sits but I agree with you- could come down just a touch- maybe a couple inches. Dig the wheel / tire combo

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Pitman arm is only clocked because that pic is before i cut and welded the steering arm... Nice catch tho!

Now that holidays have passed hopefully I can get goin on this thing again! Havent touched it since thanksgiving! The last mont or so I have spent my truck money on guns and ammo with everything goin on, in stocked up there and ready to get somewhere with the truck.

Plans from here will be replace lower tie rods with dom tube and welded bungs with new ends, rebuild king pins since when I took the cap of i found a cracked bushing, order new hubs and install, run brake lines and exhaust then start this thing! I will drive it for my birthday in august!

Beautiful truck I like white. Looks like the build I've been working on for years now . Mine is a 1970 short wide 4x4 mounted on a 74 blazer frame. I sectioned the bed 9" so it would fit the rear. I used a 4bt/nv4500 combo in mine. Starts right up, plenty of power, I like it. I'll try and post a pic sometime .

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Small update of what I've been working on... I have been very busy lately with life...I recently got engaged and will be getting married in October and We bought a new house that closes in mid July, But I've still been spending time on the chevy!

I did not have an engine crossmember so that has been a project, A friend of mine got a CNC plasma table so we cut out plates and made this! I cannot take credit for welds they were done by my good friend who is a welder.
