POS Plastic door handles

I just picked,my 09 Sierra CC from the dealership. I had two exterior door handles replaced. One was cracked and the other fell off in my hand. They wanted 500.00 to do the job. After a long discussion with the Service Manager they offered to do it under warranty with a 150.00 deduct. Since that was cheaper than my cost on both handles I went for it.

It astounds me that the handles are so poorly made that they fall apart like this. This is not the forst set I have replaced either. Does anyone have a fix for this problem? I am ready to buy another truck soon, and GM is off the list if I cant find a solution.

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm looking at a new truck and GM it at the bottom for stupid stuff like this.

Re: POS Plastic door handles

I have had several GM trucks for years and had great luck with them. Many of them were run up to really high mileage with very few repairs. Unfortunately GM chose to use a really poor design quality on these handles, and they are falling really common to fall apart.

If the 2013 redesign doesn't change them, I will buy something other than GM on my next truck.

My door handles are fine, but the driver's door lock actuator crapped out. I hear that is a well know problem. Mine's an 09 CC as well

Trust me, it is. I had two replaced on my wife 07 Denali while under warranty. Yesterday I just noticed another on pulling loose. I am getting ready to sell it and buy her a new SUV. Right now GM is not on the list of prospects.

Are those OEM are replacements? The factory units are crap, so I am worried about anything aftermarket being of lessor quality if thats possible. BTW- Mine are chrome so they would be a bit more, but I haven't looked there yet.

Re: POS Plastic door handles

Hmmm, didn't know the door handles were so poorly made. I've had (4) acuators out on (2) different '08's but the handles are all intact thankfully. I wonder if there are improved GM replacements? I'd be curious to see if the ones they used were the same p/n or new...

The chrome ones seem to be worse than the painted ones for some reason. FWIW, I work at a Chevy dealership, and my wife has a Navigator. It is our third Lincoln in a row. Just saying.

I've heard GM's headquarters are now in China, and have been there awhile. Not sure, but that's sounds about right, after we bail them out! Go figure Nowdays it seems to be all about the dollar! .02

Jon I am in the process now of looking for a new SUV for my wife. Her 07 Denali is the best overall balanced full size SUV we have ever driven, but we aren't even considering another GM.

We looked at the Navi, but she doesn't like the grill. Oddly enough, she does like the Audi Q7. Go figure...

Re: POS Plastic door handles

I am not really wild about the grille either, but you can't see it from the driver's seat. We had the '07 Tahoe LTZ, and it was a POS. I haven't had a lick of trouble with our Nav, and it tows 100x batter than the Tahoe did. I lucked out and found one scraped all the way down the driver's side, so it was a good bit cheaper, too. One of may favorite things about it are the third row seats. They fold flat. The seats in the Tahoe were always in the way.
