Need Grand Canyon trip tips!

We are planning a trip, probably end of summer, to the Grand Canyon. I've never been, but my husband went when he was 10yo with his dad, so we decided to go with our son this year since he's turned 10.
Probably will fly into Vegas, rent a car & drive from there.
So what are some things we should see in the area and tourist-traps to avoid? I just need some ideas from folks who have been. When Googling for ideas there is so much info on everything I get even more confused.

Re: Need Grand Canyon trip tips!

Have fun, its beautiful at the Canyon

This is Battle Ship rock

This is a trail all the way down, They recommend not coming back up the same day...It causes heart attacks a lot of times

You can hike the trail or take Donkeys down

If you hike, watch where you step

You might get to see California Condors, there are not many left. They are trying to save them

There are Mule Deer that are not afraid of humans

And lots of Beauty

Those are rafters on the Colorado down in the Canyon

Ok, I'm no beauty, but if you would like to see more pics, let me know.

visit Hoover Dam while carrying a fishing pole and a six pack. Make sure and ask about the Dam bait. Do NOT wedge chewing gum into small leaks.

Ride out twice . First time to south rim , stayed in Williams an took the old style train ride up to canyon . That was cool. 2nd trip did north rim Like the northern rim better for views. Either way you will be amazed. No pictures can do it justice. Gotta be there to actually take it all in. Enjoy an hope ya share some pics here

Re: Need Grand Canyon trip tips!

We went a few years ago, I think we stayed in Tusayan on the south rim, best thing we did was take a helicopter flight out over the canyon (a birthday treat for me) We were on a road trip that started in LA, did Highway One north, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Hoover dam, Vegas, Death Valley, monument Valley, lake Havasu and Palm Springs.

Re: Need Grand Canyon trip tips!

Ive been several times and I prefer the North rim. Lots less people and as other have said, better views. What I will do next time is carry a coffee maker with me. Guys on eastern time that get up early anyway wind up waiting a looooong time for the lodge to make the java
