Why does it seem that every time I fix this rig that it breaks about a month later . When I first got my truck I drove it for about a year and then I blew the engine. After I put another engine in it I started breaking everthing. I broke a u joint and had to get a new drive shaft. the day that I got it out of the shop one of the leaf springs in the front broke in half. So I rebiult the front end. A short while akter that I had A small electrical fire, Then the tranny went, got a new one of those. and now I need a new engine.

this is becoming ridiculus. So my question is Does anyone have a cheapo running engine they don't want? I know it's a long shot, but I need to get something cheap, untill I can get a new engine.

Actually I know a woman that has a complete running 4 bbl 305 in a 84 - 3/4 ton van with a 700R4 transmission that she'd let you have for getting it out of her yard. Her girlfriend ( She'd be her wife but theyre not allowed to get married in the state of Washington if you know what I mean ) side swiped a telephone pole with it so its not driveable . Its in Port Orchard over by Bremerton raceway. If you have a way to get it out of there I could ask her. I work with her .

try finding a demolition car-sometimes (depending on where you live,,,) people will give them away just to clear space.

Thats just the romance of an old pickup! Go around looking for vehicles in peoples backyards and ask how much they want or if you could haul it away for them

I know exactly what you mean, trust me, I feel your pain. In my opinion, it's worth it. Every little thing you fix makes it just that much better.

I agree. Thats the nature of daily drivers.

You will get to the point where the constant breaking will subside. It took me a year of fixing my truck every other day (it seems like) but I have replaced about every thing now and it has been running good for like 6 months... knock on wood... Pete.

There is something wrong with my truck all the time. The biggest problem is that big things break at the worst times, like when a lady asked me if I wanted to buy her 56 chevy 2 dr post, 22K original miles! Of course, the truck broke and the Boss (wife) destroyed all my ambition with words like responsibility, and rent, and junk like that.

Sorry about that guys, point is I don't need the 56 (crying) because I know I drive a truck that, even for all the repairs, is worth more for the money than anything I could buy new.

I have one down here in the lewsiton, idaho, pendelton, oregen area. Its a 350 that was bolted up to an auto. Isn't the best, but you could get 25k miles out of it easy. I would have to haul it up here, so you better talk cause I'll be down where the engine is during christmas. Email nt_expert@hotmail.com

Well my buddy has a 73 sitting my yard that we can move, it isn't titled it has a decent 350 in it. In other words it made enought power to spin 38.5 inch tires on pavement. I will ask what he wants for it. He should be calling soon. He is out at sea.

I would suggest fixing things before they break. Chances are over a couple of decades your truck might need some serious maintenance on EVERYTHING. Trust me I speak from experience. My truck was in serious trouble when I first bought it two years ago, and now it's almost mechanically perfect. I've had to do a lot of maintenance, but now it's reliable.

Look for signs that an engine or transmission needs rebuilding. Fix botched wiring jobs of previous owners before you put your own 100,000 miles on it. When you see something that isn't quite right do some research, and find out how it's supposed to be and fix it. Never pass something over, and say "I'll get to it later", because chances are it will get to you first. As an example I hope you replaced all of your U-joints, and not just the broken one (and if you have a two-piece drive shaft did you replace the center support bearing?). If you didn't then you're setting yourself up for more problems.

My wife asked me why the hell was I spending $50 on new pre-bent transmission cooling lines when the originals were still in the truck and not leaking. I told her that just the process of me taking the transmission out may be enough to damage the lines further, and they were dented, improperly bent, and covered in filth anyway. The last thing I need is leaky lines after I put the new transmission back in the truck.

You're just experiencing the final failure of parts that have been abused for too long. I would recomend rebuilding the engine you get instead of just dropping it in. Spend some quality time building it.

When I got my big blazer it took forever to get the clutch right, then I spun a carrier bearing and had to get a new carrier. Little things here and there but I wouldn't it change it. I love my Blazer more than my 2001 Z-28. Since I put the big blazer on the road in Oct I haven't even had the Camaro out. I have even contemplated selling it.
I do a littile something on the Jolly green giant everyday. Small stuff, wiring fixes, check for leaks but it is just awesome. Take it offroading and it just keeps going and going.

It's not that I don't want to build a new engine and it's not that I dont have a core to build.(I have three actually) it's just that being nineteen, in school, working part time has left me a little broke. I'd love to build a new engine or get a crate engine for it. but I can't afford it right now. so my next bet is to find a running engine that will live for the next six months or so . how do i tell if I have a two piece drive shaft? when mine broke it did a number on the drive shaft, so I got a new one from drivelines NW.

Well, I can understand the money issue, but you just answered your own question: you're looking for an engine that will last for the next 6 months....then you'll have to live with your truck breaking down all the time if you do repairs just to get by. I remember being 19 and not having enough money to fix my brake booster. I bought a proportioning valve from a junk yard, and it lasted about a year before I started having problems again...

And also, you don't have a 2-piece driveshaft. You have a blazer. I just didn't read your name.

Nothing wrong with low bucking it until you can afford to get the good stuff. I'll ask the girl I work with about her van tomorrow, She's been out sick for the last few days.
