Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

Oooh, almost forgot! I have been half-heartedly looking for a 88-94 gray seat in good condition because the 95 seat has me a little cramped. At 6-3/290 I need all the room I can get and the earlier seats help. Well this little gem popped up on Craigslist today and came home with me. I haven't seen one this nice in awhile.

I think headrests started in '91.

Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

That's a really clean 95. I could see it with blacked out front and rear bumpers, and doing the chrome grille bezel in black as well, all while retaining the factory trim. That would be one murdered out sleeper. Especially with a LS motor like you mentioned.

Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

Thanks man!

It's sad how long it takes me to do stuff in my own shop. I haven't driven it yet because I'm still messing around with small stuff. I have to notch the bed supports and re-install the bed, trim the LCA's (again), knock-out the camber adjustments on the upper control arms and of course finish the alignment.

Here is a better photo.

Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

Thanks guys!

I finished the bed re-install. I removed some plates that are on the bottom of the bed supports, which sit on top of the frame rails by cutting the spot welds. Then I cut out 3/8" from the bed support and tack-welded the plates back in, higher to clear the notch. I then moved the bracket that held the rear brake line tee and vent hose so it wouldn't hit the bed. Since the stock shocks were bottomed out sitting still I put new shocks on the rear, Monroe 32186. They are $20/each and have the perfect load, stroke and factory upper/lower mounts. So now everything clears and nothing bottoms out. I took it for a spin even without the alignment and it rides better than factory stock.

Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

Alignment is done! Had to cut the front bumpstops for clearance but the lower arms are parallel to the ground and once the knock-outs on the upper arms were gone there was plenty of camber adjustment left. Kind of a pain though.

Nice truck. Some trim rings on the wheels would look great I think if you're keeping the factory side molding.

Trims rings with the chrome center caps would look pretty good; give some visual separation. Either way, this truck is a looker. Can't wait to see how it will turn out with a motor swap.

Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

To me the trim rings don't fit the look I am going for which is a "sleeper, factory-stock, copo, shop truck" or whatever term describes the small hub cap on steel wheels flavor. I do like the trim rings on factory 88-98 rally wheels (which these are) but only in the stock argent color. But I'm just playing around so nothing is permanent : )

Ideally I'd like some 18" torque thrusts with machined lip/gray center, muscle car style.

Ignore the excessive wheel weights, here is a better side shot:

The look with the wheels is killer! I have the same style on my truck and always get compliments on them. I like to call them my poverty rims lol

I'm quite jealous of your truck. If my 90 wasn't 4x4 id lower it, but then again I've debated lowing it anyways.

20% tint all the way around with a strip on the front. Much better!

I'm waiting for two things before the next phase begins. One is for me to finish another project so I have an open bay and the other is for the salvage yard to get a lower mileage 5.3L pullout.

Re: "Black Betty" 1995 GMC Reg. Cab Sport Side

Really like what you've done so far, & that was a great truck to start with! It's kinda the look I'm going for with my Tahoe. I plan to run Wheel Vintiques 15" steel smoothies, & I'll likely go black as well (except with trim ring). I saw your pic in the '88-98 dropped trucks thread, & I had asked about tires size. Glad I found your build thread though, because you cleared up that question here. I'm also leaning towards a set of Cooper tires for mine, but I'd like to do a staggered setup.

Keep up the nice work!
