He had a bittersweet growing operation, and also bought from pickers in AR. and MO. Sold it thru mail order and craft fairs etc. in the Ozarks, War Eagle was one I remember. Kept a place in NE. as well and went back and forth a lot. His place was a mile past the cemetery, pretty far out on the peninsula. Not much road maintainance out there! Sold the place around 1980, got to be too much work as they were getting older. My Dad said they made money on the place, but they put a lot of work into it. Built a cabin, then a house, a barn, cleared a lot of timber to make pastures. The place looked like a vineyard, but instead of grapes he grew bittersweet in rows. They had some great friends down there too, lots of colorful characters! My time spent there made me love your part of the country.

A good friend of mine, a native of the Omaha area, is mayor here. At one time there was a company named Mass Merchandisers, headquartered here, that had a warehouse in Omaha. He worked for them and transferred here.

When my friends and I were heading to Jasper for some canoeing years ago, we stopped in Harrison, we named it the town of beautiful women! Everywhere we stopped we observed the local finery! Fast food, fuel station, the Walmart! Probably a coincidence, but the name stuck! Greg

Re: Happy birthday davischevy
I am very fortunate. I have a good woman. She's frugal, a great cook and housekeeper and she never complains about my old car addiction.
She can read my mind, and that bothers me a little.

Re: Happy birthday davischevy
49 years is impressive. Congratulations. I'm going on 10 years myself. But this isn't my first rodeo by a long shot. Well. If at first you don't succeed Try, try again.... As all the furniture goes out the door.
I should have known.
