Been hit in the head one time too many

I was looking at Corvettes and I stumbled upon this. And it's right in my backyard. It's not exactly a Corvette. And I need a project like I need another ex wife. But I like it and 2 door Packards are few and far between.

Price isn't bad. Now the devil is in the details. Same old story. We shall see.

And my mother did drop me on my head as a child. That explains a lot.

Re: Been hit in the head one time too many

Ian Roussel of full custom garage has done these cars on a few episodes.

1 car was done twice in different episodes, and the best one he built for himself.

He chopped the roof 5 inches, and sectioned the body 4 inches.

As I progress on my Willy's wagon. I dream of having enough skill to try a serious car mod myself.

I did learn how to do Texas tig this week.

So ugly, it has class. I also note that the laws requiring mirrors were non-existent in those days. In fact, it wasn't until the '60s, IIRC.

I like it - it has nice lines, and just the name Packard is a magical part of automotive history. The only thing I would change is the bumper, but that would probably be sacrilege.

If it were me and I could afford it , I would give it 10:1 pistons and a decent camshaft...

I just bought it.

Now I just have to figure out where to put it. I'm kind of out of room. I'll figure it out. I'm stoked. I own a Packard.

Re: Been hit in the head one time too many

I have learned that, vehicles that were low production= hard to find parts for, That equals a lot of custom made parts and that= a lot of time. Maybe when I am retired I'll take on a project like that.
Good luck.

Nice. The body lines look great and it all looks like it's there from what you can see from the pic. What year 48-49?

Re: Been hit in the head one time too many

Nice project ..looks like a good body to start with and you are right ,,a two door is rare .

I was working on my electric box on the firewall of my Chevy truck a few years back and found that Packard has a patent on Packard 56 terminals
Maybe your year car has them ,,not sure what year they were first used .. but It think 1950 on up in many cars

Re: Been hit in the head one time too many

It's a 1950 and it has new upholstery and a bunch of manuals and NOS parts. The guy I'm getting it from even has the paint for it.

He was in the process of restoring it but he was involved in a really nasty traffic accident. Some idiot wrong way driver crossed the center lines and hit him hard. He's in rough shape. He physically can't work on it anymore. Too bad. He's a real nice guy.

Re: Been hit in the head one time too many

It would make a cool custom but for now I'm just going to do a brake job, tuneup, change the fluids, paint the wheels and slap on a set of whitewall tires. Then just drive it and go from there.
