Wanting to swap to a different manual transmission

Hello everyone I have a 1998 Chevy 1500 2wd 5 speed manual.
The input shaft bearing on the transmission is badly worn I'm still driving the truck
I know it needs to be taken care of sooner or later and I might be taking the truck on a longer then usual trip in the near future. For a long time I have had problems with the clutch not working smoothly and I'm starting to hear a rattling noise when I'm in 4th gear under load.
I was thinking about rebuilding the transmission but I was also thinking I would like to upgrade to a more heavy duty tranny preferably with a granny gear. The gearing it has now is ok but I really would like a granny 1st for hauling firewood on the farm which I use the truck for often.
Do any of you guys know of a good 5 speed with granny 1st that will bolt up to the 4.3?

NV4500 to replace your NV3500. Granny first. Still overdrive. Still 5sp. Came in these trucks stock in the 2500-3500

Or, give up O/D for an even more stout 4spd from a '90 up. I've had the NV4500 fail three different times. Never heard of the 4spds failing

Re: Wanting to swap to a different manual transmission

That is a thought but considering this truck is only a V6 powered half ton I think an HD 5 speed would be adequate for my needs.
If I was building this truck for heavy towing or whatever yeah I would probably opt for the 4 speed
