Re: Don't replace your carpet!

that paint is looking good. what are you gonna do about the old scratched windows? are you gonna paint the firewall? it would be best to remove the engine for that. you could do a quick rebuild on that while it's out. oh man, just look at that frame. it's not right to put such a clean engine between those dirty rails fitted with antique suspension components.

2 years and $25K later the truck is getting close the being done. but the garage doesn't look good enough to hold the truck any more.

THANKS TIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Don't replace your carpet!

I ran into that last fall.

The whole thing started because I put headers on and the collectors wedged them selves up against the 6cyl x-member. I don’t have a 6.

I wanted the 6cyl cross member out.

Take fenders off. Jack up cab. Grind/punch out rivets in x member. Put cab down.

Oh, Hay the finders are off. Let’s straighten up the doors. Hell, we need new door pins to do it right. Redo those too then.

And wouldn’t you know. I just threw the front end back on. So, it needs to be adjusted now. Nothing really lines up. It looks like crap.

Re: Don't replace your carpet!

Well digging this one back up. The cold weather and economy kinda got to me. I'm just trying to get the truck back to 'drivable' status again. I did manage to get the cab painted up. I just got the front glass installed today. What a pain in the @$%. I had to rebuild the power steering box. It was leaking fluid faster than I could pour it in. It seems to still have a small leak. It may be a loose line, just haven't checked it out yet. I rebuilt the quadrajet also. I was wanting a new intake and carb, but I'm trying to save some money.
The truck is going two-tone red/white. The inside and top is glossy, and the rest is flat or semi-flat. I'm not the best at restoring cars, so a flat color would hide some flaws in my work. The truck is actually a '71. It had 'cst' badges all over it, but I'm trying to convert it to a 'cheyenne super'. (sort of). I named my youngest daughter 'Cheyenne' after these trucks, so I'm letting her decide the color and stuff that goes in the truck (with my influence of course). Anyways, here's some up to date pics for now. The carpet sure looks better with fresh paint inside!

Glad I'm not the only one who does that. I'm at the point where I have a list of things I need/want with no money.

Hey Tim....
Rumor has it that you spray your carpets with a cologne called..."Resto la me"... which scents the air with a "Psychological Restoration" mind set. Again his is hear say and I take no responsibilty for sharing this info..

PS: This thought is subject to change without notice.

Hey bigguy69 ... nice looking project!

Re: Don't replace your carpet!

I think I am on the brink myself of the snowball affect.

I have a '71 lwb stepper that is pretty much stock with a 350 and old 4 speed. I have had it for three years or so and have enjoyed driving it as my farm truck.

My grandson has a 454 that he wants to trade me because he doesn't like the poor gasoline mileage and I am afraid that since the 454 is in such great condition with a lot of chrome my old truck will just have to be cleaned up some and rusty parts replaced.

I guess I will stop fighting the urge to keep the truck stock as an old farm truck and start a mild restoration.

It will be a couple of weeks before the swap is complete though. I will take some pictures then and post them.

Danny

Re: Don't replace your carpet!

Reminds me of the "butfirst" Syndrome I get with garage projects.

I'm going to change the oil on the truck
but first I gotta take the full bucket of oil in the garage to get recycled
but first I gotta clean off the work bench
but first I gotta get all the tools out that I'm going to use
but first I gotta check out what that squeak is
but first I gotta go to the bathroom
but first I gotta shim that short footing on the garage fridge so it stops wobbling
but first I gotta go in and get a roll of paper towel
but first....you see where this is going?

Re: Don't replace your carpet!

I started with a tired engine that I wanted to replace....so far I have rewired, replaced all brake lines, window and wing glass, radiator, transmission, fuels lines and engine. I'm tired now so I am stopping now for a while...at least until something else gets on my nerves.
