I've been putting ya'll off long enough now, but staying busy is a good thing! I got some time today to work on the new design, and things look VERY promising!

Pics are below. Now, these are just test pieces. These are cut from 1/8", as that is what was on the table at the time. The final parts will either be 3/16" or 1/4".

They will consist of two pieces. Also, overlook the washers that I'm using as spacers!!!! I did not have the right length for the two that hold the caliper on, and the ones in between the two brackets will be replaced with a spacer piece that will be welding in place.

I have not finalized a price yet. They will be more than the Impala/Caprice brackets since there is twice the material and a little more labor in them, but they won't be crazy expensive. The final material thickness will also play into the price. Also, my compressor has a hard time keeping up with continuos cutting for the number I will be doing. So the first batch will probably be outsourced to my steel supplier and be laser cut. I will not be upcharging for this, and I will sell them at the same price as if I were cutting them here.

Here are the pics, and I will keep everyone updated. If you have already expressed interest to me, I probably have you on my list. I will do a mass P.M. to all those I have on my list in the very near future.

Sorry Shifty, business picked up more than expected and I got waaaaaaaay swamped! But now that the dust has settled, I just about have these ready to go. Today was the biggest hurdle, finished up the CAD work and got these test pieces cut out. Just a few tweaks and they will be ready.

gringo - I started these as a one piece design. After trying them on a couple of different rear end housings, I found that the axle housing flange was machined on the outside where the drum backing plate bolted on, but not on the inside. There was variances on the thickness. They might be 1/4" thick near the corners, but 3/16" in between the bolt holes. Some also had a slight taper at the corners on the inside.

The result was that when the bracket was tightened down (it mounts on the inside of the flange), it would "pull" around the corners, or get sucked into the shallower part in between the bolts. This would result in the caliper not being square to the rotor. The brake pads would only touch on, say, the bottom edge of one side, and the upper edge of the other side.

So I tried several different styles of a two piece design and came up with this. This way, the bracket that the caliper actually attaches to is mounted to a square surface, via the outside bracket being bolted to the machined part of the flange. There is a possibility that a little bit of grinding might be necessary, and I do mean just a little bit, on the inside of the flange if it is thicker than 1/4". On my own truck, one side is right at or less than 1/4" thick around the entire flange, and the other side is about .030" - .040" past 1/4". This was near the corners, so just a quick hit with the grinder took care of that.

Sorry for the long drawn out explanation....... but I hope it explains my reasoning for going two piece instead of one.

Do you have an ETA for the first batch that will be lazer cut?

I can't remember if this was asked already..... I know you're using the Impala rotor, but which caliper: Impala or LT1 f-body? (They might even be the same P/N for all I know)

Defiantly the Camaro units. They have the much desired e-brake, where as the Impala/Caprice do not. Still waiting for my supplier to get back to me on the laser cutting, but I would guess that I might have them in hand by the end of next week. Don't hold me to that, but it should be close.

Yes, it basically hooks up the same as the drum brake style. This is not my truck, but it shows the basic setup:

I am only supplying the brackets and mounting hardware. The e-brake cable is part of the caliper, those are parts you will need to source out. If the brake line adapter is the same as the Impala/Caprice ones (and I think they are) they will be included with the brackets.

shifty - of the few conversions I know of, they have all been done with stock axles, both with the 94-96 Impala/Caprice and the 93-97 Camaro calipers.
