Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

This may have been posted / answered before but I am curious before I make my wheel selection.

My truck is a 69, but it has had the 73-87 front swap. I have heard people mention the Coys and Boss wheels do not fit the 67-72 trucks exactly right (the center bore problem) Would I have the same problem running 73-87 front end? Do you know if the Eagle 225 has the same problem?

Also, what's a good backspacing to run on the front? My truck will have about 4.5" drop, (2.5" spindle, one turn cut out of the coils .. PO cut them)running 20x8 or maybe 20x8.5 if I can get away with it. What are you guys running on the front? 5.5" bs? 5" ? what works best? Tire size? Pics? Thanks.

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

on the front of my truck im running 20x8 coys with a 5.25 back space and on if they will fit it just depends on if you have light duty or heavy duty rotors most light duty rotors you will have no problem with but you can run a spacer behind the cap

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

running 20x8.5 338's, cheap wheels to buy and the machining on the rotors cost me $40, pretty minor and could have been ground at home with a common grinder and patience, lots of pics in my build thread probably the last page or 2 just got the front rolling but here are 3 to give you the idea, this was not all machined to fit just to match the factory taper on the rotor, all you need is the top 1/4inch or so needs to be ground for them to fit. The general consensus is the coys are far better quality but the customer service is awful, to me you get what you pay for, my 338's look really good but the caps don't fit too easy I wrecked 2 being rammy, I'm cheap so the 338 was my only option. Truck is just a chassis but I'm running 2.5 western drop spindles and 3 in cpp drop springs out front 7 in drop rear and plan on a 2.5in spacer out back

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

I'm running 338's. 20 x 8.5 fronts, and 20 x 10 rears. They fit fine.
Boss fixed the clearance problem. I just put these on this last weekend.
No clearance issues at all and they look awsome!!!

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

what backspacing/offset are your Boss wheels Manxxman??

BTW, nice ride! Is it bagged? or just one hell of a static drop?

Boss only offers 1 backspace for the 8.5 wide rims. I beleive it's 5.75" and the 10's have a 6.25 i think.

Yes it's bagged, but it is going lower by the time i am done with it.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

I'm running a 73-87 style front end on my '69 with the Boss 338's. I have CPP '73-87 2.5" drop spindles, CPP tubular arms and 2" springs. I have 73-87 1.25" rotors and had to turn them down so the front wheel would seat on the rotor all the way. I'm running 18x8's in front with 4.5" bs, 245/40/18's. 18x12's rear with 7.5" bs, 335/30/18's and will end up running a 1/2" spacer in the rear to even out the track width since I'm running my original 69 rear which is narrower than the 71-72 rears. Look for project 'Silver Dollar' in the builds section, he's running 18's also and has a complete truck to look at, mine is only a chassis at this point.

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

Some pics of my rolling chassis for you. I have the McGaughys 13" Disc brake conversion kit that uses a smaller hub so I had no problems with my Coys, they bolted right up.

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

18 x 8 fron , & 20 x 8.5 rear, had these a couple of years, got them when they 1st hit the market and had to make spacers for the center caps. I understand they have fixed this issue since then

Where did you get your rear wheels? I have been looking around and can't find anything wider than a 10" listed on their website. That looks sweet! I would love a set of 20x12's. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

The only thing that I don't like about the boss wheels is the offsets the front stick out more than the rears and the back sits way to far in without running a spacer

Re: Boss 338 / Coys C5 wheel question

Here is my 72 truck sold a while back with 20x8.5s and 20x10s. 255-45s and 275-45s. About a 4/6 drop. 2.5 spindles with one coil cut. and 5 rear coils and 1-1.5 blocks??? Front tires were to tall, rubbed on dips in road etc.
Boss wheels are worth the time since they are cheap. I want coys still. I didnt like the rear boss wheels because there wasnt much of lip due to the 6.25 B/S. I had a 1 inch adapter to make it work. Less than a 100.00 bucks. EZ adapters. I think?? I had less than $1400.00 in everything. Worked for me because i was selling truck. But i am going to order Coys this week, unless i cant afford my first choice.

I also want a 295-40-20s. Hope they fit with no mods to bed. It seems to work for some people.

These are Coys C-5's 18X8 with 4 bs 255/45-18, 18X9 with 5.5bs 295/45-18
The truck is dropped 3.5/5.

The second pic shows the spacer. You can buy them from a forum member (pm me - he's not a board vendor) mde of aluminum, or Coys will send you some plastic ones.
