Thanks! ...compliments to your '71 as well! ..& the "hood ornaments"!

Its a GM paint code for the blue, and the rims/wheels I got a really good price on outta the bargain finder! Then I just added the chevy center caps.

Re: long wide bed or short wide bed

When I was in HS looking for my first 67-72 alls I could afford was a LWB, even though I wanted a SWB. About 10 years later I finally got my 68 SWB and sold my 72 GMC LWB. One of the main motivations for selling the 72 GMC was cause I still wanted a LWB and the paint was too nice on the GMC to cut down the bed and all.

Now, I also have a 69 that I cut down from a LWB to a SWB.

So in the end, it would have been way cheaper to have started with a SWB. If that's what you want, get that. Might have to save a little longer.

I find that most people who really want a SWB are never really happy with a LWB if they settle for one. The other issue is and always will be that you are going to get more return on your investment with a SWB. I've seen guys dump a buttload of money in LWB's and have to end up basically giving them away when they decided to sell it.

I'll never understand those who only like shortbeds. I figure they are just converted car guys who don't really like trucks. All pickups are short to me,compaired to all trucks. Through the years, the guys who liked trucks liked trucks. Shortbeds were cool for one thing and longbeds were cool for other things and both were good for about all the same things. I'm a 10-30 truck guy. Shortbeds are only light little 1/2 tons. I like them as a car for this truck guy.
I get what you are saying, Tim, and I agree. I love trucks, so I like them all. That being said, the only LWB's I would really want to own are 3/4 and 1 tons. They are heavier duty trucks and serve a purpose. Plus, a nice 3/4 T 4WD is a very tough looking truck.

That being said, I personally wouldn't want a 1/2 ton LWB. A 1/2 ton truck is really just going to cruiser for me, and I much prefer the look of the SWB, especially when they have been lowered - which again -is only something I like on 1/2 tons.

I guess I see both sides of the argument.

Longbed all the way! Besides, the only shortbeds that look good are the stepsides, right?

I agree. Our little pick'em ups are just little go-buggies for the rest of us. I first liked pickups because they are personal size trucks. Then,I became a carpenter and needed one. Then,my country style of living further dictated one. There's no turning back. A truck can do what a car does but a car can't do what a truck does. I bought a Blazer when I had kids. I agree with Jamie that I only want a shortbed 1/2t,but that's me. I like heavy duty first...it's 8-luggers for me. I want a suspension that can take a bed full of whatever I throw at it. A shortbed is just a toy for me...that can still earn it's keep. Like an El Camino. I picked up a longbed '70 C/10 once, slapped new 3/4t coils and Airlifts under it,mounted a Reading steel work cap with ladder rack, filled it with tools, and gave it to to my foreman to work out of. It did fine. Just not my preference, that's all. Drive what you like or can get your hands on. A shortbed work it's little butt off and a longbed can be very sexy.

Re: long wide bed or short wide bed

I really like the 1 ton trucks and bigger, I guess it is because my father was a truck driving man that hauled cars.

I now own a swb stepper and a lwb stepper that I am improving, but some day hope to pick up a 1 ton dually flatbed.

I am lucky I have a '92 K-3500 with a 454 that will pull or haul anything that I need, but I enjoy working on the older more simplier trucks.

If you want a short wheel base and can not find one reasonable you can buy a lwb and start with it. My swb '67 started its life as a lwb C-20. We found a swb frame and stepper bed then took all the parts that would work off of the C-20 frame and put on the swb frame.

Buy what suits your needs and wants best. Enjoy which ever one you get.

Re: long wide bed or short wide bed

I have a long bed not by choice. its my dads old truck. but I have come to like them beter just for the simple fact that when i go to shows or cruz ins mine stands out becouse it seems that everybody and ther brother has short beds. mines not the best looking one but i think i have gotten it pretty sporty looking with just a small drop and wide tires on the back.

Longbed street toys:

I dig shortbeds. I'm building one. I bought my first one in '73. I just want to show that a guy with good taste can created a great looking truck out of either long or short.

The seller seems to love the stereo more than the truck. I say make that offer. He can take his stereo to the next vehicle with a smile.
