Seat back will not told forward???

I just picked up a very nice 1969 GMC Custom. The seat back will not fold forward. Do they not fold forward? My 68 Chevrolet did.

I believe that 67-68 were the only ones that folded, starting in 1969, they did not fold anymore.

Re: Seat back will not told forward???

67-early 68 fold safety regs in 68 required the seat to be bolted so 68-72 don't fold .

Re: Seat back will not told forward???

It looks like the design still allowed for the fold. I bet it wouldn't take much to make the later seats fold.

Learned something today. IMO you don't gain much with them folding forward, the seats push forward pretty nicely. That said, if my 72 folded forward then I could read the build sheet

Well ... if you build a custom flip seat with pockets you can carry the important things .

Re: Seat back will not told forward???

Can anyone tell me how to fix it so I can fold it forward to get to the gas gauge sending unit on my 72?

Re: Seat back will not told forward???

push the seat all the way forward and lean over , You can't make the Non folding seat lean forward without loosening the material at the back bottom corner and then removing the #3 phillips screws from the legs that hold it to the bottom frame and you take the risk of tearing up the seat material . if you can't get the access you want by moving the seat forward remove the seat to floor bolts and lift the entire seat out .

Re: Seat back will not told forward???

Here are a couple pictures of the folding seat back from a 67 truck , Notice the the upper frame is wider than the seat frame to allow the top to fold without damaging the material ,Also the single pivot shoulder bolt , Along with the "latch" mechanism using a wing nut to secure the seat from folding forward . You can also use the "latch" bolt to adjust seat back lean for comfort .
