2006 Silverado wont start? VATS? Security light flashing. Help!??!

So recently I did a body/chassis swap on a 2006 4.3 ecsb 2wd silverado bare bones work truck, I put the body onto another 2006 4.8 4x4 ecsb chassis which was a work truck but did have cruise and a couple other little options.

For security/VATS. I took the body control module from the 2006 4.8 dash harness and plugged it into the 4.3 dash harness as well as took the key switch from the 2006 4.8 steering column and put it into the 2006 4.3 steering column.

Cranks over but will not start, security light keeps flashing. Is there such a thing as a VATS module? What does it look like? What am I missing?

Also What is this?

Also I have one plug from the chassis harness that I cant find the other end coming from cab harness. Even the 2006 4.3 chassis had the plug end but can't find it anywhere. Look familiar?

The key/tumbler/ignition switch, what truck is that from?

The Anti theft system is controlled mostly by the BCM. It will communicate with the PCM to disable a start.

Most likely, You just need to relearn the passlock sensor. What codes are in the BCM?

The thing in the first pic is just a connector. Flip the gray thing back and it will unplug.

Don't know about the second pic.

The key switch (only the part that slides out when you press the pin) is from the 06 4.8 steering column, I took it and the body control module from the 06 4.8 donor chassis harness and put them both into the 06 4.3 cab.

Relearn? Is that just the 30 min procedure of leaving the key on until security light stops flashing?

Unfortunately, I don't have a way to check codes other than an OBDII scanner and I couldn't get it to even power on.

Yup you are right about it being a connector, a friend had sent me on a wild goose chase looking for a "Vats module" lol.

Also my radio won't come on if that tells you anything. It is just stock work truck radio am/fm only.

Re: 2006 Silverado wont start? VATS? Security light flashing. Help!??!

Hook up a battery charger. Set it to maintenance or 2 amp charge.

30-MINUTE LEARN PROCEDURE

1.Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2.Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
3.Observe the SECURITY telltale. After approximately 10 minutes , the telltale will turn OFF.
4.Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .
5.Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes . The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
6.Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password.

IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

7.With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

Check the fuses and make sure its plugged in. Did both trucks have the same radio?

Re: 2006 Silverado wont start? VATS? Security light flashing. Help!??!

I will try the procedure. Unfortunately my battery charger kicked the bucket a few weeks ago so I will slap my optima in it with jumper cables

When I did the procedure the security light flashed for 10 min then stayed on and didn't go off so apparently I was doing something wrong.

I didn't touch the radio and it worked before I swapped the body from the 2wd frame to the 4wd frame. I am not 100% sure what radio the 4wd cab had, I was told by previous owner it was just a am/fm radio the same as what the 2wd had.

I really really HOPE this will get it to start.. Can you think of any reason why it WOULDN'T????
Unfortunately gotta wait till I get off work.

If it doesn't start after the relearn procedure, You will need to scan for codes. You will need a scanner that can look in the BCM.

Re: 2006 Silverado wont start? VATS? Security light flashing. Help!??!

I did the key relearn correctly and it worked! Fired up! Only had one code at first. P0030 then a minute later it got P0053 then it started misfiring and got a P0300 code. No clue, it was running smooth as silk before I swapped body.

The single connector with blue wire is for trailer brake wiring. Should be a mate to it near fuse block, maybe taped to harness if it wasn't hooked up before. They need to be hooked up after brake controller is plugged in under dash.

Ahhh!!! I need that plugged up! I cannot find the end of the connector. The female end is on both chassis wiring harnesses but I can only find the male end coming out of the 2006 4.8 cab harness. I cannot find it anywhere in the 2006 4.3 cab harness.

check grounds on back of motor and heads/ you might need to change the inside dash harness with the 4.8 harness

That would kinda suck but doable. I have read several people do 4.3 to 4.8/5.3/6.0 swaps and not have to change their cab/dash harness. I am hoping this is not the case.

I actually drove the truck around the field some yesterday. It is going to be fun.

okay missed the post where you had it started the codes i would look at the o2 sensors you might have pinched the wires/ broke them when installing the body

Yeah Ive checked and checked and can't find anything that seams out of place. I checked and tried to find a blown fuse or something and came up with nothing. I have the 02s from the v6 as well I may swap in to see if they just went out randomly? Code P0030 and P0053..

I got the radio to come on (blown fuse) but it just says LOC and won't work. I dont know if it is worth trying to get it to work considering its just a basic am/fm radio no cd player. May just swap in aftermarket?

The blue wire for the trailer brakes and all, I traced it through the other harness that has the male end, I am going to un pin it from that harness and repin and run it in the v6 cab harness.
