Off to the Powder Coater.....

Here is the bare frame. I should get it all back by the weekend with a fresh coat of red powder on it.

I want to extend a big THANK YOU to Lost Wages. He may be two bolts shy, but he is a Helluva guy and helped me out immensley on getting her to this point.

I'll post some pics next week of the new color.

are those 2 holes in the crossmember stock or were they fabricated?

We fabricated those there in order to route the exhaust pipes through the frame and keep it up out of the way. I don't want parts rubbing the ground after she is dropped. I got the idea from the Early Classics truck. It was pretty easy to do and I think will be a cool mod.

I'd like to know how that is done. Did you fab up new plates on the side then cut the hole out or ??? I know what you mean about dragging something.

I see you too read the mags about ECE's truck or did you come up with that yourself? I would like to do that with mine.. but I'm too far along to be doing that..

besides I screwed up and didn't powder coat, I'm cheap I guess

Thats one hell of a good start. Is that going into the basement too? LOL. I dont know if youll be able to get it out of there once you have the wheels and tires on.

for the exhaust cut outs we got some 4 inch pipe cut to about 1/2 inch thick, place them in the crossmember and traced them. Then we cut out the circle and welded in the pipe, real easy to do and i wish i would have done my frame this way, oh yeah, some ones got some sand to clean up out of my shop

How much are they charging you to powder coat the frame? Are you going to do your axles also?

Yeah, lots of sand to clean up! I will do that right after I get it out of my eyes, ears, and everywhere else!!

I am being charged $400 for the powder coating. That will cover the frame, and all components to include the axle, tie rods, sway bars, bumper brackets, spindles, rotors, etc. In addition to the labor I had to buy the powder because I was using a special color that they did not carry. The truck will be a Viper Red (or close to it) and that powder was $175 for 50lbs.

That should be enough to do my inner fenders, radiator support and other small items as we go.

I'll post pics next week of all the shiney red parts.

If you want to hack holes in your frame for the exhaust it is pretty easy. Lost Wages pretty much hit the nail on the head. We used a sawsall for the holes. It didn't make a perfect circle but Lost Wages is handy with a welder and man you should see him with a grinder!!

The only thing that may still be a problem with this set up is the auto transmission crossmember. I may have to fab a new one to keep the exhaust from running too close to the tranny.
