I got the frame and components back last night from the oven. It turned out just incredible. The color I choose is similiar to Viper Red/Torch Red.

I used a Grey Hammermill to do the springs, drive shaft, dust covers, etc. to break up the red.

My digi camera didn't like the dark rainy morning we were having so they are a little dark. I will post some of it in the sunshine once she is back on her feet.

LOL about the rags! It was pouring down rain while we were unloading the frame so I grabbed a few of the wifes cleaning rags and stuck them under there.

The entire bill was $650. I took them sandblasted metal and this price included the $175 for the special color red powder. I ordered extra powder to do things like the radiator support, inner fenders, etc. The grey was $75.

So, for all the red it was 400, the grey 75, and the powder was 175.

Not bad, but a little more than I originally planned.

Damn Nice!!! That is going to look awesome, what is the cleaning like for powder coated products - easier, harder, about the same?

You said it was $175 for the powder - was that the extra you bought?

That looks like money well spent. Makes me want to take apart everything I own and get it coated. Of course I'd never get it all together, but it would at least be shiny.

The 175 was for all the powder. I bought a 50lb box. I think we used about half of that for this job. 50lbs should do the whole truck easily.

As for cleaning it I am pretty sure it super easy. I know water spots are easy to get off after yesterday! Grease wipes right off as well. I think it is like 6mm thick, so very durable.

i wish i had a frame so nice that i had to put rags on the jackstands. i still kick myself for not powdercoating my frame, or at least i could have taken my time more when i painted it. looks very nice, Ben

That is awesome! Very impressive! You know, you have the perfect opportunity to create a detailed builder record of putting a truck together, so please keep that camera clicking and some notes on the build process. It could be a lot of help to others both now and in the future. I know I'm gonna want to watch your progress, and I can't wait to see the finished truck.

The truck will be the same color as the frame. I am carrying the grey color along to break it up and to keep it all tied together. The metal strips in the bed floor, the hood springs, latch plate, oil pan, and other misc pieces will be done in the grey powder.

This pictures really don't do that grey justice. It is acutally a two tone grey. A light and a dark grey mix together and provide a really custom look.

I will try to take a picture at lunch that shows the grey a little better.

It will be one bright red truck when it is done though! Everyone seems to have red, so I wanted something that was a little different than the Viper Red but still close.

That looks fantastic! Got my friends and I thinking of doing the same thing to ours. Which brought up the question of whether there are any problems powder coating leaf springs? Anyone ever coated leafs?

Damn, the color of envy is green but all I see is a badass red and grey. So it was only like $650? Sounds like a good bill even if it was more than you expected. Do you have to assemble everything; I mean to say, if you welded in a crossmember, could you leave it there or would it have to come out? Did you get your axles and everything done? Could you give us a list, 650, seems like a good deal to me. NICE FRAME! Keep us posted, please

Alright, here is the list to the best of my memory.

Parts done in Red:
Frame
Auto Crossmember
Main Crossmember (A-Arms)
Upper A Arms
Lower A Arms
Connecting Rod
Idler Arm
Inner and Outer Tie Rod ends
Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeves
Sway Bar and Brackets
Spindles
Rotors
Trailering Arms
Rearend (12 Bolt)
Axles
Adjustable Track Bar and all brackets
Shock brackets
Drum Brake backs (part that bolts on axle ends)
Bumper Brackets

Grey Color:
Front Springs
Dust Covers
Motor Mount Towers
Rear Springs and cups
Drive Shaft

I could have squeezed more in for this price but I didn't have the parts. Things like the new rear drums, front calipers, and front bumper brackets.

You don't have to take every crossmember out, but I took anything off that may have grease hiding or a rubber seal hiding within it. You can clean this stuff (I sandblasted everything) and when they heat it up to 410 degrees it all runs out and ruins the powder. So, moral of the story is to make sure all grease is gone and I asked them to bake all of the bare metal one time before putting on the powder.

My axle has a spot on it where the oil came out of a little pit in the axle that we couldn't even see. I will have to touch that spot up with a little enamel once I have it mixed for the body parts.

Next steps include a 373 posi complete rebuild of the 12-bolt, new brakes and lines, a new fuel tank in the frame, and a ZZ4 350 hooked to a TH400.

Can somone loan me some money???
