Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!

Here's some more whitey-tighteys on my beater. The fronts are factory 15 X 6 truck rims and the rears are 15 X 8's with '67 factory hubcaps. I'm running 215/70R15's on the front and 275/60R15's on the back with a 2.5"/4" drop.

Where do you buy these either new or used. Iam looking for the original 6 lug steel wheels to put back on my truck. This is a great posts. I have wanted to put steel wheels back on but didn't know where to look for advice. This is pretty much the look I am after.

If im not mistaken those are Highlander wheel covers. They were also put on the Monte Carlo's too of the same year. They are not easy to come by so hold on to them. Is your truck a highlander? Does it say Special Promotional on the SPID (sticker inside the glove box if you don't already know)?

Yeah you do. Is your seat plaid as well?? It was only offered on 72's I believe but it was a package offered in 3 levels by GM to promote the trucks and increase sales I believe. Plaid seats, different wheel covers, tilt, ac and other options were available on them. I my opinion it would make your truck worth more.

Interesting...the seat has been recovered before I bought it, so I dont know if it was originally plaid, but it does have the wheel covers (I looked them up) the Factory tilt, Parchment Visors and Door Panels, and the Black Dash pad and carpet. It also has the Custom Badging. The interior is the Metallic green, but the previous owner painted the exterior white. PS, PB, 4bbl 350, and still has the factory Radio. maybe I should subscribe to list it here for sale. I just dont drive it like I used to, and dont need the registration, and an extra vehicle to maintain. Its listed on CL for 3950 here in Phx...I wont post the link cuz I think its a sales violation for the board... Ill check the SPID later. Maybe I should ask a little more??

You never know, you might be able to get more for it (assuming it's in good condition otherwise). I'm assuming it's prett rust free seeing as how it's from Arizona. I'm not too up to date on truck values but if yours is low mileage like you said and a highlander truck it might have a little higher value than you have it listed for, but I really don't know.

I called the wife at home, and had her look at the SPID sheet. Sure enough, It has Special promo package "B". I guess, from looking at this thread:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=3037715

that it has everything except the Air, and tinted glass. I have no idea what to list it for...Maybe I should just keep it...Anyway I can find the original ugly plaid to rebuild the seat with?? Maybe I should move this to the general box, away from the Steelies thread......

If the truck is a Highlander it will have YG8 as an option code number. The discription of this codes varies from nothing to highlander option. The key is the YG8 option number.
A Highlander truck will have a minimum of the following:

Group A:
Plad seat in Blue, Grey, Avocado or Orange. and black carpeting wall to wall.
The special wheel covers (C10 only). Chrome caps for 20 and 30 series trucks.
Custom Deluxe Equipment.
Bright metal rear window mouldings, vent mouldings, windshield moulding, cigar lighter, fender name plates, full foam seat, door opreated dome light. etc..
Chrome bumpers.
Upper mouldings.
Door edge guards.
Below eye line mirrors.

Group B:
TH auto trans.
Power steering.
Tilt wheel

Group C:
Air conditioning
Soft ray glass

The sales pitch for the Highlander package was you saved $260.50 on this option group.

The plad seat only came in the Highlander.

Option group B alone is not a Highlander.

NOW back to the STEELIES

Denny

I bought those wheels on ebay for $80.00. They were in a odd ball category somewhere as I recall (not vintage truck parts etc). Anyway I recognized them to be what I wanted and when I got them home I had them powder coated. I've heard some say that military Blazers and trucks had these type wheels. I don't know for sure.

Yes,they are those artillaries.Original artillaries were from the`40s in the 6-lug pattern.I think it`s cool they`ve been brought back.
