A door question

I need to take my doors apart and after dinking around with them last night for a little while I thought I would post and see if there was a order to how you should take the things apart.

I want to replace all the guts with new stuff like power windows and one piece glass.

Does anyone know of a tech article on how to disassemble the doors, or maybe just what should come loose/out first?

It's been a while, but it seems like I removed the vent window assembly first.

Yup, vent window 1st. I just did this to replace the window and regulator. Be very careful when taking out the vent, its a bit tricky and easy to scratch your paint. I taped up around it so as not to damage my NEW paint and it worked out fiine.

Good Luck

OK, well that is where I started, but with the window glass all the way down it still seemed to bind pretty bad, so I stopped. I wanted to see what the experts had to say.

How do you get the glass out of the door? Will it come right out once the regulator is out?

Take off the window regulator handle, door latch handle and arm rest. Then remove the inner door panel. Then you have to take the vent window out. Remove the 3 screws holding the vent window assembly to the forward edge of the door. And down below on the inside you will find 2 screws holding the bottom of the vent window assembly. Roll the main window all the way down and then slide it towards the back of the door away from the vent window. You should be able to pull the vent window back a few inches (out of the slot), then raise it up and turn it 90 degrees. Then pull it up and out. After that you should be able to slide the main window out.

I'm also interested in this subject line from 1971Stepside. So, once you get the glass out is there any way to remove the metal panel to have more access to the window mechanisms. I already have the everything off but the glass.

The window seal on my driver side has let water enter for some years (previous owner). I have been able to get the window to move up and down with some WD40 but I don't want to get my exercise by rolling opening and closing my window.

I saw a tool in a magazine for bending open door panels for such a thing. Has any one done this before?

Thanks
John
