Clamshell latch

I am converting my 63 Panel to clamshell. The tailgate and hatch are installed, and last weekend I welded in the side post pieces where with the supporting arm and striker plate go. So far so good.

Now I am trying to figure out how the push button on the tailgate works. Mine appears to be missing a key part as the button goes in and out, but doesn't cause anything to happen. I removed the center access plate, and discovered that the post on the back of the button doesn't presently articulate with anything - but there are attachment screws for the side and center latch connections.

Questions:

1) Does anybody have a drawing from a shop manual of what this is supposed to look like, or

2) Can one of you take a picture of the latch through the center access plate, and or,

4) Will some other latch work?

THanks in advance

Dave
