So this is interesting. The truck does not list any information regarding the rear bumper on the SPID and I thought that was odd but now it makes sense. So my truck came factory with no bumper and it was added later. Likely by the dealership. I didn't know they could come from factory without a rear bumper but it makes sense that the dealer would install one to suit the buyers needs. Very cool!

Re: What colour should I paint my 1972 step bumper?

Thanks everyone who took the time to reply. It was cool to see some of the different styles of bumpers out there. I think for my truck, back to its original argent silver will look the best.

I know this post is from a while ago, but can anyone tell me the color code for the off white color, and where you go about getting a hold of it. I want to touch up some spots on my bumper and rims, but am new to the classic pickup game!

A truck could come through with no rear bumper at all. Standard no option is no bumper. Many states did not have safety inspections required for trucks at this time, so no rear bumper was legal.

There were aftermarket companies that made step bumpers. Sometimes dealers would install these per customer request. There were those offered through the Silver Book or ones sourced independently. The aftermarket step bumper business really took off when states started inspecting trucks, requiring rear bumpers on all pickup trucks

My '72 has an aftermarket "Bartens" rear bumper. It was originally silver but was white when I bought the truck. I put it back to silver
What Tim said. My step bumper was argent silver.

My step bumper was originally a silver color which you can see from the attached picture. When I redid the truck painted it Argent Silver and it turned out nice.
