Hey guys! 1 year later, and I am back to a classic Chevy! (56k warning)

I absolutely couldn't resist this truck... I wasn't even in the market. For those that don't know me, I had a 71 K5 Blazer, so I wanted to post for those that helped me time and again. Don't razz me for it not being a 69-72.

I don't think any Chevy truck fan could have walked away from this one.

1989 Chevy Suburban
56,000 original miles
Silverado, pretty much everything

This thing is a true 9/10. Other then the suspension and wheels/tires she is all stock. She spent most of the 90's in a garage in Idaho. That is original paint fellas. I paid? $6,500 bucks! It's my new daily driver, I sold my F150 for it. I drive 6 miles a day, and it will be garaged, so I hope to preserve it for a long time to come. Whattya think?

Nice and clean!
But I thought '89 was the first year of the newer side-by-side headlights like '89-91 Blazer/Suburbans?

Re: Hey guys! 1 year later, and I am back to a classic Chevy! (56k warning)

It is an 88. I didn't actually realize that until I bought it; I just had 89 stuck in my head from somewhere. No biggie at all. You are right; 89 was the first year of the side by sides and classic 88-91 grille setup. I think that newer setup even snuck onto some 88s too, but not this one.

It's a cool truck so far. No surprises- well, except 2-

1. this thing had it's original 18 year old spark plugs in! Imagine my surprise. The ground electrode was really worn down, more then I have ever seen a plug worn down- where at least 1/2 of the material was gone from the tip of the electrode.

2. Original fuel filter; I would blow as hard as I could through the old filter, and it gave some SERIOUS resistance. It was way overdue for replacement.

When I did the plugs and filter, it really woke the truck up. This 350 is definitely stronger then the F-150 and 5.8L that preceeded it. That surprised me. I am going to look into the 700R4 gearing vs. the E40D gearing, because a 7 year older truck stock with 35's (3.73s) shouldn't move out better then a newer truck with 33's and some mods (3.55s). This truck really moves.

I repacked the front bearings; Here is a question- I never understood why Chevy gives ranges on the preload on the front wheel bearings; 25-30ft/lbs. Whenever it gives ranges, I always instinctively split the range- so I opted for 27ft/lbs. At that rate, the hub turned smoothly- not too easily, but not too hard and there wasn't any play. I am always worried about under/over preloading those dang wheel bearings.
