Mini-starter info
I am thinking seriously about changing out my old, weak starter for a mini-starter, and would like some input from anyone that has done this change. I have a remote solenoid setup, so I am curious as to whether the posts are similar as far as attaching the jump bar that is needed for the remote solenoid. I also seem to remember reading at some time something about having to use shims, but can't remember the circumstances involved. Appreciate any info, LB.

I've got a PowerMaster mini-starter in my truck and it works great. It only has two posts.... one for the battery cable and one for a 12V source. I rewired my ignition system, so it was an easy hook-up. Not sure how it'd hook up with a remote solenoid and the stock wiring harness. Did you install the remote solenoid to move it away from the heat? If so, with the mini-starter, it may be far enough away from your heat source to eliminate the need for the remote solenoid.

Put one of the same on my BB 502--no shims needed for me --remote will hook the same as now. (got remote also)

Thanks guys, that's what I was hoping to hear. And yes, slammed, that's why I went to the remote solenoid.

I have a cheap Summit mini-starter in my blazer. I love it. Cranks quick and easy. Plenty of room inbetween header.
I'd say do it. Good idea to put new battery cables on at the same time.

I just put a CVR Mini Starter on my suburban. I like it. Mine was set up with a ford type solinod so I think it is remote also. But I just connected it like the other one was. Works fine. Seems like it has a lot more power to crank. I like it. I did install both shims, just depends on your stituation. Follow the directions and youll be ok.
I have the same starter on my LeMans and it took me forever to figure out that I was not getting enough juice to start it. I thought that it needed more shims cuz it would not engauge. got more power to it and it was fine. The battery is in the trunk, so Im going to run bigger wire back there to take care of the problem. The minis are nice cuz they aer only 10lbs compaired to the 30lbs of the stockers. And the hook up is in an easier place.
