Question OT--- 86 C10

I am looking at a 86 C10 short stepside that is sitting on a used dealers lot. It has 77,000 mi on it and has a small amount of rust in the rockers. Rockers have enough rust to do a replacement, not bondo or metal. 305, air, auto. seems like a nice truck but he wants 4500 for it.

I think that is high. I was thinking of offering him 2500 and see what happens. Any thoughts?

I'm kind of a tight wad to money. I'd offer him $2000 to start out, wouldn't go any higher than $2800. 305's aren't that fun for power without extra $. Not to mention, rocker replacement and repaint. But a good shortbox stepside is always a fun project. Good luck

yeah I'm a tightwad too. LOL maybe we start TA - tightwads anon. LOL

I like it cause it has very little rust, 2.73 rear(I think) I am currently going to school and between work and school I am spending about $55/wk in gas. Not to mention I have 4.56 gears and can only drive 55mph

I am taking body classes in school, so I am not concerned about the cost of replacing the panels as it will be cheap , But I'm not telling them that.

I would try and find a '87 truck with a 305 or 350. '86 was the last year for carbs, and the engines were burdned with AIR pumps, EGR valves, computer controlled HEI and all sorts of other junk. The '87 models have TBI fuel injection, which will give you better gas mileage and proably a bit more power than the smogged-out '86. And the resale value isn't as high as the '88-up trucks with the same motor.
BTW, it sounds more like a 2k-3k truck.

Try the 2500, all he can do is say no and go from there. Over here on the other side of the river, at least in my part of nebraska, considering the low miles and lack of rust, they would prolly get 3800 or so out of it.

well, just got back and they say they cant let it go for less than 3350.

It has rust through in both the inner fender panels(I can see the firewall) front A arms are heavily rusted. rear of frame is heavily rusted. Leaf pack on pass rear has been replaced. both rear fenders have rust coming through the paint. rockers are in need of replacement. Exhaust ends before rear axle. inner cab kick panels are starting to show some rust. Did run pretty good, but I cant see the price he is wanting for it.

I feel it is only worth about 2400 tops to me.
